I saw two open carries in one day. Somewhat rare around here. One was in Walmart (very small town) and the next one was in Metro like city at a restaurant. Are you seeing open carries in you neck of the woods?

See open carry around here in Michigan a few times a year.
There are a number of groups here trying to edjamcate our sheeple that guns are not bad.

They have OC rallies, dinners, meetups.

They go to events, walk through their neighborhoods etc.

Law Abiding citizens have nothing to fear from other law abiding citizens carrying guns. But there are still a lot of phone calls to the police about 'A Man or Woman carrying a gun' that typically result in police officer talking to the OC'er , finding out what is going on, and the OC'er going about their business after a few minutes.

Sheeple everywhere though think guns are bad.

Can't in sunny Florida either. Back in the early 80's, the voters had a referendum - we could have either open or concealed carry, and concealed won the vote.
We are trying to get the open carry option too. Governor Scott's ONLY good point is he seems gun-friendly.

It is a weekly occurrence out here where I live. Every time someone comes by to visit, they are carrying some form of firearm. They are like socks, Either you have them on, or you don't leave the cabin...... of course bush Alaska isn't most folks normal neighborhood.... ..... YMMV, and probably does....

I would like to put in a caveat. I open carry on my property. I am not visible to the public, but armed at all times, even on the toilet ;) . I do carry everywhere I go, concealed. The only place I do not carry concealed is the courthouse - but I have a weapon (several actually) in my car.

If a place of business decides to exercise their right to refuse concealed carry on their premises by following Texas law and posting an approved legal sign; I exercise my right to shop or do business elsewhere. Just sayin' YMMV.

As to Marlast1too - Robert Heinlein said it best "An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life."

I see it some, more frequently lately. About 2 weeks ago I was going into Wally World and approached a "manly figure" wearing not one, but two Beretta 92F's. Honestly my thought process in this order was...1) How dumb do you have to be to open carry?....2) How paranoid can you be? (probably had a .380 in his sock as a "BUG" to his "BUG"). 3) He better hope the first 9mm didn't malfunction, because there was no way he was reaching the other from the cross draw holster around that beer keg of a belly. And 4) At least he was fashionable and completed the ensemble with a shiny badge. Proclaiming to the Universe, he was carrying a "concealed weapon".

I have a CCW. Mostly, so I can legally carry any time I want. Equally because we have few true freedoms and rights left. We'll loose them too, eventually. But what I don't get...A concealed weapons permit, is just that. Here's a personal example of why I don't "broadcast" I'm packin'.

I'm a confessed milkaholic. Along about 10 o'clock every night I'm looking for a cold glass of milk and cookies for bedtime. One of my top ten peeves is to open the fridge door and discover an empty jug. So it's off to the corner 7-11 for re-supply.

Being ex-military, I've always prided myself in being aware of my surroundings at all times. But, let's just say , one time I let my guard down and unknowingly stumble into an active robbery on my "milk run". Just because I'm armed doesn't automatically call for me to do society a "favor" and blow the scum away. I have the right to defend myself. However, defending others is not an obligation rather a choice based on many different scenarios.

What if the clerk behind the counter screams, "He's got a gun, I'm being robbed!"? A well intended armed citizen might draw, fire and kill the bad guy or worse, an innocent bystander. Only to find out later, it was an empty hand in a pocket. Is there anything in a cash register worth a human life, to include the thug's?

Don't mis-understand my resolve. When life-threatening acts are imminent, I'm prepared to do what's necessary. But, I would like to have as many options possible, before taking a life. If I walked into the store flashing badge and gun, I run the risk of being mistaken for Law Enforcement. Perhaps being gunned down myself by a panicked criminal.

All I'm saying is, armed or not, sometimes the best weapon you have is your head. Become a good witness. He'll be caught evidently, they always are. Run-of-the-mill gangster wannabes aren't known for their high degree of intelligence.

Simply put, I can't think of alot of good it does to open carry. Sermon over, we'll pass the collection plate now......[rnt]

I too, value life dearly, SJ. I always have a concealed weapon with me in public, it is my choice to equalize the playing field. I have been involved in matters that cost human life on more than one occasion and know it will probably happen again more times than not in the years coming. I chose to make my living working in damage control and often find myself in places and situations where humanity is stretched to it's limits by reality. I learned this lesson early in life when my drowning little brother climbed atop my head and nearly drowned us both while I was trying to rescue him. I wish there were some happy ending to this story or some objective lesson to be learned but there just isn't? To take another's life, even in defense of your own is a diminishing feat that shapes the person you are. To posture and pose and wear a big "I am a Bad-ass" sign just makes me want to bitch slap you.

I open carry on the lease...Since an XDm .45 is faster than a Savage .308 bolt gun...
With a pack of charging Hog's after you...I gladly give them the Savage...and start thumping with the .45...

I carry concealed when it is convenient (the vast majority of the time)...other times openly.

Open carry isn't a big thing where I live and few here are afraid of guns.
