I was unaware of this problem, but fortunately have a beekeeper up the road and get my honey from the source.

I cringe every time I hear the word "Honey"
Historically that's what the wife said in the past right before she breaks the bad news...

Honey... Guess what happened to your truck?
Oh Honey... I didn't think you would mind if I....
Guess what Honey... your gonna be a daddy....

no sir... no more honey for me thank you....

Yeah I saw the honey syrup crap. I passed. Used to be some apiarians who would sell honey at farmer's market, but they went bye bye. Gonna start stocking up on Augason Farms honey powder. It's not as sweet as raw honey, but it sure beats nothing. And we have honeybees somewhere nearby, saw one on a thistle flower in my yard this summer. Good thing too, I was holding off on chopping down the thistle til I knew if it had any culinary/medicinal uses, but honeybees liking it is good enough for me to keep it around.

Yes it ca be used medicinally.

Granted this a medical school and I'm surprized that they speak of it as favorably as they do.

also be sure you check to make sure your honey is produced in the USA. My friend is a master beekeeper and one year went down to Mexico to observe their honey operations. They proudly showed him their gathering tank...which still had the words 'Mobil Oil' on the side of it. The conditions there are...um...unsanitary to say the least.

Honey from China may contain Cipro.

I only get my honey from LOCAL keepers.

Purple star thistle makes some of the finest honey around.

There's a senior program where I work that serves lunches a few times a week, and last time I was in the kitchen to get ice I saw a gallon jug labeled "Honey Flavored Syrup". BLECH!!

It's filtered, yes...and sterile by nature. Don't see how that makes it not honey.
Now if you go and get some of the processed honey, then yes, it has lost a bit in the transition...but Grade A raw honey is still good.(y)

I have to confess that I didn't know either. I saw that the recipe that Tikka posted was from Bryson City, so I asked my mom, who is also from Bryson City, what a Cat Head biscuit was. She looked at me like I was pulling her leg and said, "A biscuit the size of a cat's head." I'm surprised she didn't add "DUH!" She didn't need to; her facial expression said it all. Obviously there was a gap in my education.
