I just found this story on yahoo. Residents in Alaska city could get $9-a-gallon gas - Yahoo! News just goes to show ya how fragile our infrastructure has become... one broken pipeline here in the lower 48 and it could easily be us paying $9 bucks a gallon, or more
Not news, just normal Gas was 8 to 10 USD/gal in the interior last year. Check out fun spots like Lime Village. In May of this year, Kotzebue region in Northwest Alaska, payed $7.55 in Noorvik, $8.25 in Kobuk and $8.95 in Ambler. On the up side, it is possible to purchase milk.
It brings up one of those irritating "Why would anyone live there?" questions.... from a quite different angle than we in the Hurricane Belt are accustomed to. EVERY place has it's pros and cons.
The answer is easy, on that question..... Simply, Because the rest of you folks do NOT want to live here.... If you did, I would have to move somewhere else.... Few Sheeple live out in the bush of Alaska, because their kind need cities to survive.... We have very FEW Cities... and the bush folks, visit them but NONE of us want to LIVE in them... .... YMMV....

Sitnasuak Native Corporation said Monday that it signed a contract with Alaska-based Vitus Marine LLC to have the double-hulled Ice Classed Russian tanker, owned by Russian company Rimsco, deliver the petroleum products. ANCHORAGE, Alaska—The iced-in city of Nome on Alaska's western coast may be in luck: A Russian tanker that can plow through thick ice will try to deliver 1.5 million gallons of home heating fuel, gasoline and diesel fuel after a massive storm kept a barge from getting in before winter. The vessel -- which is certified to travel through ice 4 feet thick for long distances -- delivers fuel to communities in the Russian Far East. The plan is for it to leave Russia this week and go to South Korea, where it will be loaded with fuel, and then travel to Nome, where it should arrive by late December. If it can't make it into port, the tanker is equipped with a hose more than a mile for off-loading fuel. It could save the 3,500 residents of the coastal city from a very costly winter, including predictions of $9-a-gallon gasoline if fuel had to be flown in. Flying in fuel adds nearly 7 USD to each gallon in cost. Northern Air Cargo will have to get one of their DC-6s out of mothballs to do it. Russian tanker, Korean Fuel oil, Alaska Natives - sounds like a movie script.... At least they didn;t sit on their collective ass and wait for Uncle Sugar to bail them out - might have froze to death by then.
