Anybody else on here including antibiotics in their preps? I have a 30 day stock of broad spectrum gram neg and gram pos for all family members as well as some targeted for the more common bio agents (eg ciprofloxin for antherx). Thinking I should also stock some injectable lidocaine or such for any backwoods dentistry that may be needed, any thoughts on this??
My greatest concerns about some antibio's are, that they can become not only pretty much useless in time, but that they can also become poisonous. Those that do are few, but the fact is you have to know which are prone to that and avoid them....As for some anti's, I'd try to utilize mother nature's own recipes of such types of molds, that grow on breads, and some fruits such as oranges...BUT you have to know what they do, can do, and not do, and who would be allergic to them...Mind boggling unless you have some medical knowledge or a great book on such things....Me, well I'm at a loss for the most part!

Scrapman, I'd look at the side effects for cipro. I'm not too keen on using it as prophylaxis (treatment to prevent a disease as opposed to treating a disease). Ruptured tendons post SHTF sounds like death sentence. Just Sayin.
Cipro, Just 1 in a line of a few, one of my targeted ones, and trust me, no antis are to be used unless there is a reason. One of todays docs biggest mistakes is overperscribing antis, 'corse can't blame them, parents are always like "my child has the sniffles and a 100 degree temp, I need antibotics now" And everybody wonders why MRSA is so prevelent now. A friend of my is in wastewater treatment and he said even the antibiotic soap is causeing problems, the good bacteria not growing like they did a few years ago.
www.calvetsupply.com has great stuff for decent prices. Get some of Ragnar Benson's books for ideas about the injectables. The orals are the same with a USP symbol. Also being in the field I am in helps a little in their use.
Thanks to Falcon15, this was very interesting to read... I think antibiotics are quite useful, if you don't abuse it and use it just in an emergency case... nowadays people seem to take it when they catch a cold. Of course in this way it will lose the efficiency.... and I also know some people who got an allergy reaction from it and ended in the hospital
Read somewhere that bread mold could be harvested now/refrigerated/and used later. We keep a good supply of Goldenseal and my bud at the farmers supply will allow me to "raid" his animal anti cabinet if needed. My dairy neighbor keeps an ample supply of antis for his herd. Nothing like having a ready supply close at hand.
If memory serves, the penicillin mold was a very specific strain. To process it into the drug was fairly tricky, I believe it involved extracting the mold in a liquid medium, then separating out one specific set of chemicals. Not sure what the liquid medium was [it could range from water, through alcohol through some other fairly toxic solvent] or how they separated out the active ingredient [could have been as easy as spinning it up in a centrifuge and slurping out a specific layer all the way through drying the product, and extracting it with a different solvent, there are so many ways to process botanicals] I do know that in the early years of penicillin, it was hard enough to get in bulk that the urine was saved and the penicillin was distilled back out of it and used again ... Please exercise caution if undertaking this. Many molds are toxic. You could end up with poison and not antibiotics.
Agreed - by and large the greater percentage of byproducts of mycotics are poisonous to humans. WAY WAY more bad fungus than good
Penicillin used to be the wonder drug. Now it is ineffective against almost everything. Ask a doctor, they almost don't use it. Ever hear of MRSA? Methicillin (a form of penicillin) isn't even used to treat patients any more. It's only used in labs. By the way, MRSA sucks. And once you have it, you are likely a carrier for life.
Well Penicillin G and V work well on those regular bugs and for people that don't use antibiotics as candy ( limited exposure over their lifetimes ) . A nice shot of Bicillin LA is great as it releases over time and is an entire course of antibiotics in one shot ( hurts like hell though )
This is the same as humans take its just repackaged. They are in pill or capsule form. Just like humans take. You can get these on amazon.com or on ebay.
You also have to consider that antibiotics have a shelf life. Taking expired antib's can cause more harm than good. btw, this is my 1 st post.
