Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year !!!

I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and colleagues, but it is difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone.

So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on advice I wish to say the following :

Please accept with no obligation , implied or implicit , my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible ,low stress , non addictive , gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious / secular persuasions and / or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all .

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012 , but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great ( not to imply that The United States is necessarily greater than any other country ) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes .

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms :

This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/ him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher .

Best Regards ( without prejudice )

Name withheld ( Privacy Act ).

Funny. Seems only Christians are the ones making an issue of it. I find this post as offensive as you seem to think it is funny. I don't really give a damn about whether someone says Merry Christmas to me. However the intolerance taught by Christianity does seem to lead to a large percentage of Christians who cannot handle being responded to with a different greeting more inline with the other persons beliefs, faith, or lack thereof. Reading through the letters to the editor in the local paper I see letter after letter about how "it's merry christmas, not happy holidays" or "OMGZ there's a war against Christianity". Get the hell over it. This is not the United States of Christ. You have the freedom to practice your faith anyway you please and you have the right to say "Merry Christmas" if you wish. You do not have the right to push your faith on everyone else, nor do you have the right to force or expect anyone to say things the way you would prefer. Open your eyes and quit being an intolerant bigot. This is a diverse society and I for one am extremely offended that Christians are so damned offended by their persecution. Try being a heathen for a day, then you can tell me all the ways you are being persecuted.

Holy crap. If it offends you don't read it. Nothing forced you to finish reading the joke you found objectionable but you chose to. Then you chose to subject us all to your dissertation on the subject of what christains do and don't think. A little self righteous of you too, don't you think. I don't profess to be a christian or a jew or a pagan or anything at all. I will personally celebrate any holiday that gives me a paid day off from work! I think we have become too PC in this country. I have friends of multiple religions. I greet my jewish friends with a happy hanukah, my christian friends with a merry christmas and my pagan friends with a yuletide greeting. They can respond back to me with the similar greeting of their choosing. I have sampled a variety of religions in my time and generally have found something useful out of all of them. Can't we all just get along?
So, now if you have read this and it makes you angry you have wasted 1 minute of your life you can't get back. Cry me a river, build me a bridge and get the hell over it.
Have a happy holiday, or not if that suits you better, either way it works for me.

I don't think you quite get it. I agree we've become to PC. The entire point I was trying to make was say it however you feel like saying it and quit worrying about the way other folks say it. You've only got control over what you yourself say and do so no sense in trying to get everyone else to give holiday greetings the way you'd like them to. I want folks to give me the greeting in the manner that fits them and their own faith and quit trying to be PC about it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the Monkeys! [beer]
If this offends anyone, tough noogies, get over it. It's Christmas Time! Lets have some eggnog, listen to poorly sung carolers, then open our cheap Walmart gifts. Then stuff ourselves with good fattening food. Monday morning, I'll be at the range.

I'm of the opinion that ALL Lawyers should be taken out back, beaten with a rubber hose, hanged, then shot, then decapitated, then buried in a 10 foot deep unmarked grave, facing downward. Why such extreme measures you might wonder. Cuz they such slippery slimey devils they might find a loophole & COME BACK!!!

The OP has a POINT.. Many folks feel they need to be PC... and it is gone Way To Far, in my opinion.... YMMV....

As far a Religion, GOD, and for that matter Politics, Go.... I have a Policy, that I set many DECADES Ago..... It States.....

I have my Religion, GOD, and Political Beliefs... They are Mine, and have NO Bearing on ANYONE else's Religion, GOD, and Political Beliefs.... These are Personal to "Me"..... I extend this same RIGHT to ANY, and ALL Others, to hold whatever they choose as a Religion, GOD, or Political Belief. I do NOT force my Religion, GOD, or Political Beliefs, on ANY other Person, and REQUIRE, that others NOT try and force their Religion, GOD, or Political Beliefs on Me. If they choose to do so, then they will suffer, Whatever, or However, I CHOOSE to respond to such intrusion, in to MY Space, PERIOD.

This Policy has served :"Me" well, for Half a Century, and I see no need to revise it.... ...... YMMV.....

    It was sarcasm hoss.
I am of the opinion that the mindset of persecution being widely expressed is imaginary. No one has said you can't say Merry Christmas and until they do it isn't persecution. The big complaint seems to be that other people say Happy Holidays. How the heck you gonna feel persecuted because someone else chooses to say something different?? Say what you want and quit crying bout what others choose to say. That's all the point I was trying to make here. And forgive me for the point being unclear, I was only two sips into my first coffee.

If you say Merry Christmas and someone gets a butthurt, that's their problem. If I say Happy Yule and you get a butthurt, that's your problem. Give the greeting that suits you. Religion and everything that it encompasses is a personal choice, be you, I'll be me, and the PC morons can rot in the hell of their own choosing.

As far as Im concerned the USA is a Christian Nation founded by Christians and is still a Christian Nation held togeather by the Grace of God.

Christmas is the celebration of the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Easter is the celebration of the resuraction of our SDavior Jesus Christ.

If you dont like it and dont believe it and it allso offends you JUST MOVE TO CHINA OR ELSWHERE WE DONT NEED YOU.

Wow. And those same Christian founders would very likely frown upon the fact that there are American's today who would rather see us revert back to the ways of the Crown. The old have your cake and eat it too. Can't have your own religious freedom if you want to spout that level of nonsense. Seems to me that China or ole Soviet Russia would be better suited for your own intolerant attitude than those of non-Christians like myself.

Big difference between me and you is that, I'd defend to the death your right to spout such non-sense if need be. Whereas somewhere along the lines you've either forgotten or failed to learn what it is that the Constitution of the United States stands for.

'Nuffa dis. It's a holiday season no matter what you call it. We can hope the vitriol above does not continue. If it does, it'll have to be on another thread.
