In signing HR1540 indefiniate detention is now the law of the land. Your god given rights are gone, with the stroke of a pen.

The big ol' Zero in a signing statement said.

"The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it. In particular, I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists."

Hey idiot, Signing statements mean less than a campaign promise. Signing statements mean Zero, nada, zilch. If you had reservations you shouldn't have signed or vetoed it outright. You Mr. Obummer are nothing but a spineless shill for the puppet masters.

That may actually be a true statement as you are only going to be in office for less than 1 more year. But what you have done is to loose the hounds of hell upon us by allowing subsequent administrations the freedom to detain us indefinitely.

If someone needs to be hit in the head with a brick to wake up to the fact we are in trouble...here is that brick.

Passed by the Republican majority House and the Democratic majority Senate and signed by the "constitutional scholar" President...in one bill the entire concepts of due process and innocent until proven guilty are thrown out with the bathwater...and only one presidential candidate has objected to this dismantling of the basic rights of american citizens (if you are bothering to read this, it is a pretty sure bet you know who that is from my incessant links).

I am told that it will only be used in special circumstances and when the Security Of The Homeland is at stake...no, really, you can trust us...we're the government and we are here to help you. I am not the smartest guy in the world, but one thing I have learned over the years...many of them spent working for the government...is that any "special emergency powers" that the government gets end up being used more every year until they become the new norm. The nature of the governmental beast is to grow the size and power of each bureaucrat's empire to it's farthest limits and always seek to enlarge the borders. With blatant acts like this from the guy who was chosen by the power structure to run on a platform of hope and change, I have fewer and fewer doubts that I will live to see the day that writing paragraphs such as these might be considered dangerous to the "Security Of The Homeland".

Read for yourself, think for yourself...but let me ask one question. There are some very old Supreme Court Justices...some of whom will probably not serve another 4 years. Think about whom you would like to appoint their successors...the president willing to sign yet another bill effectively removing the guarantees of the founding documents of the nation in the name of protecting us, one of the "chosen" of the party that got this whole ball rolling with the original "Patriot Act", or the guy who insists on strict adherence to the constitution (including the amendment process when needed) and does not receive corporate support?

It's not that tough a choice for me.
