TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Two assailants on a motorcycle attached a magnetic bomb to the car of an Iranian university professor working at a key nuclear facility, killing him and his driver Wednesday, reports said. The slayings suggest a widening covert effort to set back Iran's atomic program.
The attack in Tehran bore a strong resemblance to earlier killings of scientists working on the Iranian nuclear program. It is certain to amplify authorities' claims of clandestine operations by Western powers and their allies to halt Iran's nuclear advances.
The blast killed Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a chemistry expert and a director of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran, state TV reported. State news agency IRNA said Roshan had "organizational links" to Iran's nuclear agency, which suggests a direct role in key aspects of the program.
Natanz is Iran's main enrichment site, but officials claimed earlier this week that they are expanding some operations to an underground site south of Tehran with more advanced equipment.
The U.S. and its allies are pressuring Iran to halt uranium enrichment, a key element of the nuclear program that the West suspects is aimed at producing atomic weapons. Uranium enriched to low levels can be used as nuclear fuel but at higher levels, it can be used as material for a nuclear warhead.
Iran denies it is trying to make nuclear weapons, saying its program is for peaceful purposes only and is geared toward generating electricity and producing medical radioisotopes to treat cancer patients.
Tehran has accused Israel's Mossad, the CIA and Britain's spy agency of engaging in an underground "terrorism" campaign against nuclear-related targets, including at least three slayings since early 2010 and the release of a malicious computer virus known at Stuxnet in 2010 that temporarily disrupted controls of some centrifuges — a key component in nuclear fuel production. All three countries have denied the Iranian accusations.
Israeli officials, however, have hinted about covert campaigns against Iran without directly admitting involvement.

I bet they were watching for Israel's planes to drop bombs too much and not watching the ground .

They are going to keep on til Iran shows the world they don't care how many die's. The world will find it's self dealing with a nuclear nightmare from this country trying to prove it is one of the big dogs.

Crying shame how they keep having these unfortunate incidents in their nuke program. I'd say the Isrealies are mighty efficient.

I wonder if there isn't an underground movement in Iran that could possibly be active ---

You can bet we have spooks and SF working inside. In my day we would have trained and armed locals to do the main part of the op to keep the finger prints to a minimum and maintaining operational security.

This also falls well into the type of things mossad can/would do.

I still say that war game was more clearly using Iran as the OPFOR due to the Iranian Navy & the Revolutionary Guard Navy both clearly centering their tactics around the use of large numbers of small, fast, and agile craft that sent in waves could easily overwhelm our own modern Navy's reliance on high tech self defense measures. Of course the Iraqi Navy was similarly equipped under Saddam but in no where near the numbers Iran could muster.

Well apparently SchwartsKoff and his Jedi Knights DID learn from that disaster, and proceeded to kick some serious Tail in Iraq One.... and then again, years later in Iraq Two. The real issue here is, no one was "Prepared to WIN", in either of those conflicts, and botched the whole After Action Administration in BOTH cases. Our MILITARY has their War-Fighting Skillsets down pat... What our Political Leaders do NOT seem to understand, is after you Killed them, How do you bring them back, into the civilized world, and how much will THAT Cost? I fear that if we get into a War with Iran, we will screw up in exactly the same way AGAIN, as we seem to never learn those After Action lessons.... My Opinion... YMMV....

    War starts at midnight.

The Millenium Challenge Game debacle reminds me a lot of the J.A.Rank film, "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp". Better to lose some face in being defeated in a wargame and learn the lessons from it than to ignore reality and pay the price of ignorance in blood and materiel when war begins.

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The USA's early defeats in the Philipines, Wake Island, Guam and Pearl Harbour (Pearl Harbour would have been a decisive defeat had the carriers been moored dockside in Hawaii), might have been avoided or minimised if they had wargamed the possible Japanese options and ramped up preparations accordingly.

Sadly, we seemed doomed to fight each war/conflict, at least initially, as if it were the last one we were involved in; and the American military, it seems to me, has always needed to get one good punch in the face before they start to take the fight seriously. Initially underestimating our opponent seems to be a national trait. But hey, our natural awesomeness makes up for that little character flaw.

Sadly, in the case of Pearl Harbor, the American military looked at the shallow waters of Pearl, and said "Ah, the perfect harbor. It can't be attacked with torpedo planes." The Japanese military looked at Pearl Harbor, and said, "Ah, we need to develop a shallow running torpedo, and it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel." You're never completely safe, unless your enemy is very dead or very stupid; and it's never safe to assume that he is either.

In both WWI and WWII America held to a 'peacenik' view overall, and did not prepare til the wolf was howling outside and ripping the livestock apart......
I blame the People and their 'Leaders', not the military who can only fight with the tools they are given. Besides, many believe Pearl Harbor was a setup to change the public view. We sacrificed a few old aging WWI era ships, in order to rush in the contracts on the 'new' ships. The old Military/Industrial Complex at work in DC.
McArthur made serious blunders in PI, and Wake Island was a lonely near forgotten outpost.......
It's danged easy to make these decisions over a boardroom table in DC, to the irritation of the poor blokes in the Pacific Island mud.

In this wargame's case, they used a seasoned Marine to lead the OpFor? Didn't they ever watch Heartbreak Ridge? Or ANY John Wayne movie.... The Marines ALWAYS use unexpected tactics! Saddam just sat in his ornate office and gave some very bad orders, many of which were thankfully ignored by his field commanders getting their butts chewed!
Anyhoo, the US brass ALWAYS sets these games up to let themselves win, no matter what it takes.
I saw that as the target ship in at sea 'war games'. I used the radar simulator to knock the Big Guys down, til they made me stay within the game's stacked parameters. Thing is, in real war, the opponent doesn't always play by the same rulebook!
