Russian buys crates, gets Kalashnikov content free

    (AP) – 2 hours ago

IZHEVSK, Russia (AP) — Reports say a Russian villager ended up with his own private arsenal after buying wooden containers for firewood.

The ITAR-Tass news agency reported Friday that a truck driver had decided to make extra money by selling crates he was transporting from an arms plant in the Ural Mountains to a nearby landfill.

Little did he know, the crates contained 79 Kalashnikov rifles, spare parts and more than 250 cases of ammunition.

The report said the villager turned over the arsenal to local police, who say they are now checking the grounds of the Izhmash factory — which makes Kalashnikovs and other weapons — for compliance with safety standards.

ITAR-Tass reported that a preliminary investigation had found the rifles were sent from the Defense Ministry to Izhmash for recycling or disposal

This would be a good start to a groups arms room.

Years ago when working the loading docks at Sterns and Foster bedding we had a boxcar backed into the building with 3 others to be loaded. Some were closed and sealed and had been certified empty.

Well, low and behold ..... manna from heaven, one was full. completely freakin' full with Budweiser Beer. Some of that beer mysteriously dissappeared before the lunch break was over.

Even more amazing is he contacted the police.

As tempting as it would be I would just contact the company that sold the box to me.

Back 80 years ago my grandfather worked for the railroad as a trackman/swith operator. He was working one day when a railcar went loose and skipped the stop block. It went down a grade and build a head of speed and when it went to go around the corner, it tipped over spilling everything everywhere. It was a freight shipment from Sears and Roebuck. Some of the contents of the railcar were rifles and shotguns.
To this day my Dad and I each have a neat little collection of slightly banged up or no damage at all long guns. Some sit in the local railroad museum that has a section in there about the crash.

I honestly don't think I could have turned them lose (Kalashnikov), the tears I would have shed. I probally would have turned in 70 half the parts and 50 cases of ammo.

Then I would have been at home rubbing on them Mine Mine Mine all Mineseesaw
