cleardot. One Light Bulb at a Time

A physics teacher in high school once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American ..

Good idea ... one light bulb at a time ......

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowe's the other day for some reason, and just for the heck of it, I was looking at the hose attachments.. They were all made in China . The next day I was in Ace Hardware, and just for the heck of it, I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start looking..

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now... I do not buy it any more.
My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico .... now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything..

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value .... " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price.. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio .

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here...

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets...... yep, you guessed it, bounce cost more money and is made in Canada .. The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

(We should have awakened a decade ago...........)
Let's get with the program...... help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U. S. A. .

There is a growing trend to bring jobs back "on-shore" - offshore manufacturing costs have risen dramatically as the dollars earned til now have raised the standard (and cost) of living in the Asian countries as well as the cost of transporting the raw material to the destination and then returning the whole goods when complete. Many companies are re-tooling right here in America. Imagine that! American products being produced in America, a novel approach to fueling the job market. I wonder who will take credit for the increased fuel costs that are encouraging manufacturers to return to their own country.

We have seen sooo many companies move to other countries, mostly cause they can get away with paying dirt cheap wages there and still raise the prices here. :(
We will try to buy more made in the USA also.

NAFTA: Never Again Function as a Tradesman in America
GAFTA: Globally Against Freedom, Tyranny Applies
Global Trade: Move jobs overseas, create a class of unemployed consumers, control them with a ruined economy.

They just changed the wording to make it more palatable. It all depends on how you define "lie" - to paraphrase Slick Willie Klinton.

In the early 1980s I had a neighbor who just retired from Ford Motor Co. He got a huge retirement bonus as well as a real nice monthly check.
So what does he do his first week of retirement, goes and buys 2 brand new Toyotas. I kind of figured the country wasnt likley to survive with the current mindset of the population.

Jobs will come back to the U.S.A when:

    • We stop giving special protections to unions.

    • Stop paying excessive wages and benefits for uneducated people doing unskilled labor.

    • Stop passing and enforcing unreasonable and unneeded environmental laws and regulation.

    • Stop the cascading effect of taxes that cause the cost of everything in the production cycle to rise beyond market levels.

    • Start producing cost effective energy (see third one above).

    • Stop subsidizing foreign countries with our money, so they can flood the U.S. with below market priced goods.

    • Stop over regulating American businesses.
    See wasn't that easy.

I will always buy American when a quality, fairly priced American product is available. I will not overpay for a substandard product just because it was made in the U. S.

Jobs will come back to America when the Goovernment steps out of the way.

I avoid Wally World like the plague, have you seen the patrons that frequent that place. I guess it would be good for entertainment and want a laugh people watching.

They might have the least expensive everyday price on groceries. If a person watches the local grocery store sales ads, you can beat Wally World hands down on food. Besides that, I am willing to pay a little extra just to not shop there. Maybe others don't have an option for groceries, since Wally World drove out the local competition like they seem to do just about everywhere they put up a store.

ETA: Not trying to sound like a jerk, I'm just not fond of Wally World and all of the Made in China crap they peddle. Good for you on buying Made in USA products, it is almost impossible to purchase USA products exclusively. Unfortunately, not all products made here are always the best.

Makes you wonder how many of them might have a financial interest in companies that have shipped jobs overseas. Wouldn't it be nice if they had to submit their financial portfolios prior to voting on legislation, to make sure they did not have a conflict of interest. Democrats and Republicans are both at fault for dragging this country down financially and economically.

Legally, these 535 scum suckers are exempt from most of the things about insider trading and conflicts of interest etc, because they themslves pushed thru legislation that would allow them to do so. Why do you think so many of them become rich while in office. It's not all high salary, that they control the raises on also, it is the influence peddling and insider info they are privy to that builds their mansions.

Another benefit of buying produce locally is

Another benefit of buying food produced locally is that it is most likely a healthier option, particularly in the case of processed food. The known food adulteration scandals and lax environmental and food manufacturing standards with regards to the use of preservatives, pesticides, herbicides etc in the PRC and elsewhere....it may be cheap....but not necessarily wholesome.

I usually check the source of supply and tend to buy Australian made / produced where possible. I also only buy fruit and vegetables in season in Australia. Do table grapes imported from the USA tempt me when grapes are not in season in Australia...sure they do...but I resist the temptation until they are in season here.

Globalism is great for multi national corporations.....but as has been found in the case of the big sports shoe manufacturers....not so beneficial for the sweat shop labourers who are paid a pittance, (because the conglomerates can get away with it) , and the US consumers are gouged by huge unjustifiable markups.

Personally Im a free trader and think if I want to buy somthing overseas its really none of the gooverments business. Ive bought some equipetment directly from China and can say other than langague and time difference the only bad part of the experience is the US customs so called service.

Reguardless of what fellow Americans say products made in the USA are still reconized as the best in the world. Given a level playing buy our own goovernment the us can produce most stuff cheaper and better.

With that said if you want to purchase a gun directly from Brazil what business is it of the Us government or any other goovernment, its wjat makes the world go around.

I'm one of those who buys American made products. Even tennies. If you read the labels, some manufacturers use their USA plants for shoe manufacturing (New Balance comes to mind). It doesn't take me long to read the labels. I won't shop at Walmart. No reason to. I've walked through it and didn't find anything priced much cheaper than any other store that I could go to.

Nike comes to mind an Oregon based company, as far as I'm concerned Phil Knight should be ashamed of himself. He might as well move his whole corporation to Asia. I do not believe he manufactures anything here in the USA. For what they pay people over there, you would think we could buy a pair of Nike tennis shoe for considerably less than what he charges. He tries to redeem himself by contributing to the University of Oregon for the multi-million dollar donations he contributes to build football and basketball sports arenas. I guess that's what he needs to do to help him sleep at night.

What you have to watch is the trade regulations that allow companies to import mostly assembled goods, put the finishing percentage of production into them and they qualify for "Made in USA" or " Made in Canada"
There are regulations about what "Made in" labels have to meet, and they are not written well.

The other thing I am noticing is labels on my favorite product that say
" packaged exclusively for" and no hint of where

There was a short video out a while ago about growing fish on the mekong river and it was an eye opener. sorry, no link for the video.

it pays to pay attention to the labels

wherever." This is very common in countries that don't have a manufacturing base. Especially true in the smaller nations of Asia. It is a way (for them) to develop local jobs and economies that aren't based on what they can produce locally. Not in any way to endorse the practice, after all we have the materials and skills to do it ourselves if we want to. Economics will rule in the absence of tariffs and regulations, and sometimes in spite of them.
