I received a phone call this morning from a lady I could hardly understand, certainly like sounded like she was from India. Lucky me had just been 1 of 1500 selected to receive $7000 from the US Government since I had been paying my bills on time, did not owe the IRS any money and had not filed Bankruptcy. As long as I did not use this money for any illegal activity like gambling, drinking and something else. Also said that the IRS would be paying me a visit in a few days of receiving the money to make sure I was not using the money for any illegal activities. I asked which agency of US Government do you work for. Her reply US Government Grant Dept. and gave me the following number from Washington DC to call to receive my money i form of check, cash or deposited in my checking account. Phone number was 202-407-9187. I asked where are you calling from, her reply Washington DC. I responded that's funny the number that came across caller ID is an Oregon number. Oh, I'm calling from a land line. Anyway there was more to it but you get the point I knew it was a scam and had to play her myself for fun. I tried calling the land line back that was on caller ID which was an invalid number. Also looked up the Washington DC number to find the following info about the number, just as I suspected phone scam. http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-202-407-9185
They were looking for you to give them your Bank Account Information... and they either resell that to the Crooks, or use it to pull all your funds from your account. I would tell them NOTHING and then report the Phone ID to the local District Attorney, and Fraud Squad in your local Cop Shop it would only take a few quick checks by the Phone Company Security folks to identify EXACTLY where the call originated..... .....
You are much kinder than me, I usually respond with a DoS attack on the number they give me. I'd hit em for you if I had a system I could dedicate to tying up their line for the next week. Course I got nothing better to do today, so I'll pull up some soundboards and have Sgt. Hartman put em in their place.
Will do that today, thanks. At 10:15AM the following number came across my Caller ID. I got nowhere calling it back. Transcom Enhanc 503-227-1122
Thanks for sharing I work from home - and rarely answer the phone - but when I get one of these out of state numbers, I'll the game. After a couple of minutes, I'll hookflash the phone - so the caller get a good loud click - then say "Special agent? This is the call you want to trace." Never get bothered more than once. Odd, eh? It's the sales calls that drive me nutz.
I keep getting calls from my phone company wanting to hook me up with their fancy new 'bundle' of phone, ISP and TV. They seem so amazed when I tell them "No thanks, I don't watch TV," They act like I'm in the stoneage. One woman DID actually realize where I was coming from, and asked if I use HULU or Netflixx. I told her I do infact use HULU - it's all I need. Four days later, another person calls, with the same pitch! You'd think telling them "No!" once would be enough, but nope, they just keep calling. Been getting two calls a day from some mortgage company. I ain't answering - I have NO mortgage and will not remortgage! My 'DELETE' key gets a good workout.......
When they call for me or wifey...I just tell them i'm dead or just died... That i'm a friend and we are having a wake for me at the house... I let them figure it out from there...
watch those call back numbers .... some of them are scams themselves .... you get charged a crazy amount $$$$$ and the scammer gets their cut .....
I NEVER call a number I do not know. If it has no name telling me who they are, they get deleted. If they leave no message telling me who they are, they get deleted. When I see "California Call" or "Newyork Call", they get deleted - I know no one there.......
Yup, I never did call the long distance call back number just the local number that came across caller ID, phone system said number was not in service. Not sure how that works when I received a call from that number. I have heard about those long distance ones charging large amounts to your bill, especially calling any number that ask you to start entering numbers to get through their system. I'm guessing some people push those buttons not knowing.
Yep, and when you complain to your phone company that it was an illicit number, they say "YOU made the call!" They getcha coming and going.
