Approved a private project to be constructed on public land, and using public money as a loan guarantee. And the save the desert greenies not yet heard from. Hm. Wonder what will take up residence in the shadow of the panels or concentrators?
From the above article listed The solar energy project is expected to create more than 600 jobs on the project site over the 30-month construction period, and more than 4,300 direct and indirect induced jobs in the facility supply chain including manufacturing, value-added services and transportation. Additionally, the project will employ 45 full time operational staff and will spend upwards to $10 million per year in operating costs and is forecasted to generate $37 million in total tax revenues over the first 10 years of operation – contributing to workers’ paychecks, service businesses, local school systems and police and fire departments.
I'll agree with you on the public money part. Not so sure how muck I like that part but at least there would be construction jobs but at what cost and to who.
I have to agree. It you look at it as 5000 jobs created for a minumum of 3 years then we are talking about $50,000 a job per year for 3 years. This isn't that bad compaired to other projects...if these numbers turn out to be true.
There is the key word true. Since .gov is involved, I guess you can take that with a grain of salt. Not saying I support the project.
Basic "Politics 101" - standard operating precedure. If it does generate jobs and revenue, it'll be better than a lot of Government projects.
