After looking at a lot of BOB list's, I think I have a new must have for a BOB. OK ready, a black ski mask. Don't laugh just yet here me out first.
    OK here are my reasons:

    1. Warmth If your body loses 70 percent of your heat thou your head it makes sense to have one.
    2. For Intimidation or to hide fear you pick it will work both ways. Just turn the mask inside out for fear.
    3. If you have to do something bad, you don't want persons or cameras to Identify you doing it.
    4. Camo for the dark.
    5. If you do something stupid, no one will know it's you. Like thinking the SHTF and it did not.... okay that was just for fun.

The only thing I need to know is what do I tell LEO when he looks in My BOB and finds a Gun and a black ski mask. Any Ideas

Depending on where you are in some places, maybe a white ski mask, you may stand out more and be safer. Just a joke people. Blending into the area is a good thing, if riots are going on in an 'ethnic' area face paint and a 'getto blaster' may help you blend in. Not that mucj of a joke people. Try to be as un-obvious as possiable. I be a white, long haired guy. ALOT of places I am noticed, a mask, cap, wig, and pants around my knees might help me exfiltrate..........just say'n

A gun, mask AND a "swag" bag is definitely a problem

The black ski-mask on it's own is not so much of a problem, and will only require the least explaining to do...the gun with the ski mask will probably require serious explaining; The ski mask, the gun AND the BOB marked "Swag" is definitely a case of creative explanatory exposition being needed!!!

Bling, definitely! Gang tatts, probably not such a good idea

Oh...and bling...lots and lots of cheap gaudy BLING!!! Gang tatts not so recommended...hard to remove (wonder if you can get temporary gang tatt transfers...hmm...must investigate) and if you exfiltrate through the wrong gang turf, will get ya deadder'n a gutted and skinned 'coon in a Catskill hillbilly's cookpot!!

    Gang bangers and tinkerbell tatts......

Most native animal species in Australia are protected animals and may not be legally consumed. Some macropod species may be hunted and culled by licensed shooters when their numbers are at population levels that are a hazard to habitat, or farming productivity i dare say that the occasional kangaroo tail, or fillet, finds it's way into the stewpot. Kangaroo meat, crocodile meat and farmed emu meat is sometimes available for purchase in specialty butcher's shops and delicatessens and some super market meat depatments. Indigines Australians are usually exempt from such restrictions, though some animal rights activists look askance when urban "white" looking folk who identify as indigines, are seen gorging themselves on roast goanna cooked on the backyard barbie. Feral animal species of course, are free to be shot at (which include deer ) virtually anytime with the usual caveats of appropriate licensing and public safety and access permissions in the case of private and public property owners.

I don't think that a tatt of tinkerbell is going to quite do it for most crime gangs...they may make the wrong inferences and screw you side ways, thinking that you "bat for the other team". Kind of putting a slightly different slant on the expression...."gang banger".

Draw up a design on tracing paper, flip to reverse side, trace over heavily with ball point pen, rub down mirror image side with clear STICK deodorant, carefully lay paper onto skin, pat down and remove paper after a few seconds. I use this method to transfer designs to people but it also leaves a pretty convincing temp tat if done properly.

The amount of heat you lose depends on the amount of exposed surface area. The "most heat loss through head" thing is a myth.

commonly referred to as a "211 mask". 211 in the California Penal code for robbery.

Simple, just get a Balaclava or one of the wool military neck warmers neck gaiter. The neck warmers are a large wool tube that can be worn as head gear, neck warmer, hood or facial mask.

The old 3 holed ski mask is a stick up mask, a neck gaiter is much lower in profile but will serve a purpose. You just pull the neck gaiter up and over the lower face or pull the balaclava over the head and lower face from the neck.

I shall remember this urban survival technique should I be peremptorily dumped by a taxi driver in a 'hood, somewhere in Detroit or Chicago some time. What I really need is some kind of neutral inking that says..."I have no beefs with anyone and don't want to Fark with or be farked by anyone....peace man, and if you leave me alone...you can have my sister....or.... my brother if you prefer" : O

Check in your local motorcycle shop. M/C balaclavas are warm, thin (to fit under other head gear) and wind resistant.

I actually have a "rob a liqueur store" mask in my BOB and have had for several years. I don't like the thought of running out of Jack Daniels.

UGREV I don't know if its myth or not but my grandfather told us if you keep your feet warm and your head will be warm. keep your head warm and your feet will be warm . Keep both your head and feet warm your hole body will be warm. If I under stand correctley as your body cools down your blood veseles constrict in the extremetys (hand then arms and feet then legs ) But not you head or brain. This tells me to try to keep my head as warm as possible in cold conditions. remedy a ski mask in my BOB.[wannamesswitme]

The Truth About Heat Loss Through Your Head

There is widespread misconception regarding heat loss through one’s head. You have probably heard one or more of these myths:

    • If your feet are cold, cover your head.
    • You can lose up to 75% of your body heat through your head alone.
Although 13-16% of the blood volume is in the head at any given time it is a very exposed structure. The problem is that the head is only about 10% of the body surface area. Thus, the head would have to lose about 40 times as much heat per square inch or centimeter compared to the rest of the body.
Wilderness Medicine took volunteers, wired them to monitor their core temperatures, and discovered we lose heat through any exposed part of the body and the amount of heat we lose depends on the amount of exposed surface area. The rate of heat loss is relatively the same for any exposed part of the body not simply the head. You do not lose heat significantly faster through the scalp than any other portion of the body with the same surface area. The idea that we lose heat faster through out scalp because of the constant blood supply to the brain is simply a myth.
Wilderness Medicine reports the cerebral blood flow is constant; blood flow to the brain does not change as the demand for oxygen is constant. As a result, when you look at total heat loss, the head accounts for about 7% of the heat lost. The cerebral blood flow does, however, vary based on cardiac output – the harder your heart beats, the greater the blood flow to the brain. When you begin to exercise you increase the blood flow to the brain and increase the percentage of heat loss through the head to about 50% of total body heat loss. But as the person continues to exercise, the muscles demand more oxygen which increases blood flow. To ensure thermoregulation and maintain normal core temperature (exercises increases body heat), the skin vasodilates which increases blood flow to the skin to cool the blood. The net result is a decrease in the total blood flow to the brain and a decrease in percentage of total body heat lost through the head to about 10%. Once sweating begins, the percent lost through the scalp returns to 7%. Research at the Army Research in Environmental Medicine labs showed that there was a temporary increase in heat loss through the scalp that returned to the baseline of 7% as the subjects continued to exercise.
CNN published a set of 10 health myths including heat loss through one’s head: “You Lose 75 Percent of Your Body Heat Through Your Head”. CNN reports the truth is: “This adage was probably based on an infant’s head size, which is a much greater percentage of the total body than an adult head”. That’s why it’s important to make sure an infant’s head remains covered in cold weather. (This also explains those ubiquitous newborn caps at the hospital.) But for an adult, the figure is more like 10 percent. And keep in mind that heat escapes from any exposed area (feet, arms, hands), so putting on a hat is no more important than slipping on gloves.
It is still a good idea to put on a hat if your feet are cold. But what is BUSTED is that there is nothing peculiar or unique about the head. The idea that we lose heat faster through out scalp, because of the constant blood supply to the brain, is simply a myth.

It's okay to use the ski mask... It's because you're one of the "good guys"...
If a cop ask why you have a gun and a ski mask - just ask him: Why does he ??
