Back in the 70s I had this romantic vision of Australia as a frontier where a man could live wild and free.(same vision of Alaska)..the man I was working for decided out of the blue he wanted to buy a sheep ranch in Australia and asked me if I'd go take care of it for him.Is the Pope catholic? Do bees buzz? Of course I was willing,so he put me in charge of gathering information,I contacted the Consulate-General's office and received a big package of emigration info.Prices were really high there compared to the US at the time and a lot of hoops to jump thru.I decided it was too much hassle,and he never got his sheep ranch and I never got to Australia.Now I regret not getting to try it and I wonder if any of you guys ever passed on a chance like this and lived to regret it.
not to that extent no.... for me the one that got away was, is way back in 1988 I had a friend in desprate need for $5,000 in cash... and he offered to sell me his 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS for just that sum... I had the money but passed thinking I would never get my money back out of that deal... take a wild guess what that car would sell for today?
$3000 for an island in the San Juans, WA state, four of us 'kids' had the money. The P's said NO! 47acres, nice harbour,,,,,,,sometimes I hate my Ps. But I guess they raised me well,,,,,still don't have my Island. Passed on a chance to sail a boat to the 'south seas'. Delivery of said 'yatch'. arrg, all expences payed, money on delivery, airfair back..... OH, well that was then this is now....... Ask my 'cuz about her gunnie pig,,,,that SUCKED for her..
In the seventies i missed out on a nice porche 911 turbo... seems a hot shot pilot left his wife for a younger model and left her power of atty to sell his prrche and send him the money ... she walked into the O club bar where a buddy and i were and offered to sell a porche 911 buddy said how much she replyed $100.00 he said it worth $9000.00 more than that price... she said not to me... he had cash and bought the car... she signed over the car and had it noterized.... sent her ex the crisp $100.00 bill... i just wish i spoke up first....

Maybe a miss, maybe not. Things aren't always what they seem. I used to take overseas work with a few stipulations. Fellow I know offered me work in Argentina installing satcom terminals (large C band dish, equipment shelter and cell telephone interconnect work). Very pretty Nation. My Spanish is passable, so took a look. Called a friend still 'in the know' - and he waved me off - this was just before the economy crashed. Most of the work would have been in rural areas, with even greater security problems. Could have been fun, but could have been fatal. Now, the only OOC work I'll consider is in the Pacific Islands and the economy is so bad everywhere else, there is no shortage of folks willing to take the work. I don't know why, but I had no problems while working the CIS (old Soviet) - but the deals passed by, real estate not purchased, and so on seem so much better in retrospect...
Looking back I would have persued a career in Professional Golf. Really other than time if I failed ......not persuing it was a failure initself..... what would I have missed out on?
Opportunity has knocked upon my door many times and I have always tried to answer it, in a manner of speaking. I have no regrets, nothing that I wish to do over. I have failed or met with a lesser degree of success on occasion than I would have preferred but never looked back with any regrets. My glass stays half filled, though the flavor may be lacking once in a while. I have been blessed my whole life and those few paltry things that disappoint me or affect my health or well-being, I'll deal with.
I got it! I got it! If that damned cop had stayed for another doughnut,I wouldn't have gotten a ticket for 115 in a 65 on my motorcycle! That caused me to give up motorcycles for nearly 30 years and just look at all the extra gasoline i had to buy to go the same places?
well, if I'd have stayed home today, I wouldn't have gotten stranded and had to spend money that I hadn't earned
