Andrew Breitbart's unexpected death on Thursday has sparked a swift outpouring of grief and remembrances--but also the inevitable conspiracy theories about the timing of the outspoken conservative's demise.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., last month, Breitbart claimed he had damning videos of Barack Obama, and planned to release them before the general election.
"[We] are going to vet [Obama] from his college days to show you why racial division and class warfare are central to what hope and change was sold in 2008," Breitbart told the CPAC crowd.
Steve Bannon, producer of "The Undefeated" and a friend of Breitbart's, told Fox News' Sean Hannity on Thursday that the tapes of Obama at Harvard do exist, and that they would be released "in a week or two."
The news quickly sent conservative bloggers--still shocked by Breitbart's sudden death--into a frenzy.
"In a stunning coincidence," Paul Joseph Watson wrote on InfoWars.com, "it appears Andrew Breitbart suffered his untimely death just hours before he was set to release damning video footage that could have sunk Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign."
Conservative blogger Lawrence Sinclair referenced a conversation he had with Breitbart in Washington D.C. three weeks before. "Andrew said, 'Wait til they see what happens March first,'" Lawrence Sinclair wrote.
Sinclair also took issue with the wording of Breitbart's death announcement as it was posted on BigGovernment.com.
"Claims that Andrew died of 'natural causes' are the opinions of his attorney Joel Pollak and not the statements of any medical personnel from UCLA or the L.A. County Coroners office," he wrote. "L.A. Assistant Chief Medical Examiner Ed Winter says autopsy to be done tomorrow (Friday March 2, 2012) and no official cause of death has been determined."
But the coroner's office told Yahoo News on Thursday that it is unclear when the results of an autopsy would be released.
With conspiracy theory allegations floating around Sinclair's website, the comments escalated into more predictions of foul play.
"I do not believe Breitbart died from natural causes," one commenter on Sinclair's site wrote. "He died for speaking the truth...He probably should not have announced he had videos of BO's college days... I find it quite interesting that he died alone on a street. There will be an autopsy and they will decide on natural causes, but there is a way to induce a heart attack in human beings."
Wrote another commenter: "One thing is for sure. 43-year-old people don't die from 'natural causes.'"
But it wasn't just Sinclair News that housed conspiracy theorists. Conservative site InfoWars.com had plenty of speculations too.
"I'm going to reiterate what I said before," a commenter wrote on InfoWars.com. "In my opinion THIS GUY GOT ELIMINATED. Plain and simple." And another wrote: "Anybody who gets too close to the truth will be killed."
After sending commenters into conspiracy overdrive, Sinclair later clarified his post while simultaneously blaming the media for opening the door to these kinds of allegations because of overzealous reporting.
"In light of the comments which have been posted on this article we want to make something perfectly clear," Sinclair wrote. "We are not and have not said nor do we believe the death of Andrew Breitbart is the result of anything other than a believed heart attack. We simply reported that different media outlets reporting the cause of death as being of 'natural causes' before a cause of death has been determined is wrong and has created this sense of something more sinister."
But, the Obama tapes weren't the only things Breitbart had up his sleeve. As Simone Wilson reported on LAWeekly.com, the death of the polarizing 43-year-old came days before he was expected to announce a new Web project.
"This has been Andrew's obsession," Joel Pollak told the paper. "He was working incredibly hard."
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Breitbart recently told friends that he was "in early talks with CNN about a Crossfire-style show in which he would argue from the right alongside former Rep. Anthony Weiner," the Congressman whose political career was throttled by Breitbart in 2011. (A spokeswoman for CNN, though, called the report "totally false.")
One thing that may quell the talk of a conspiracy: Breitbart's father-in-law told the Associated Press that he had suffered heart problems in 2010.

I would suggest that conspiracy theorists, look for the bizarre and uncommon elements of an incident...and use the apparent statistical improbability of the incident happening as evidence that it DID happen in the way that they suggest i.e....that there was a conspiracy that engineered the incident to happen precisely in the way that the conspiracy theorist had explained it happened.

Note1 It is entirely possible for people to die entirely alone in a street. Perhaps it's uncommon, but not so uncommon as to defy rational explanation, and defy previous experiences of such events.

Note2 Yes there are ways in which a heart attack may be induced...but if he / she is a coronial medical officer worth their salt...given the controversial nature of the subject, they will look at all possibilities, including induced heart attack. If death by natural causes is declared, the fact that such a declaration is made, does not mean that there necessarily is a cover up...the guy may actually have died of natural causes in the same way that he would have died of natural causes if he had have been a totally unknown mundane person and not an ultra conservative right wing shock jock "claiming" to have the goods on Obama. If Breibart "did" have the goods on Obama...then he was a dumbass in not having an envelope with an attorney somewhere that begins..."In the event of my death, please ensure the contents this envelope that provides damning evidence of.......that is damaging to President Obama's fitness to hold the office of the President of the United States of America is released widely to the media".

Note 3. The guy who made that statement is obviously an idiot.....maybe he should talk to an actuary some time. Breibart could have had a congenital heart defect, his heart could have been damaged by rheumatic fever, he may have damaged his heart by a high consumption of cigarretes and junk food...(ever watch the film "Supersize Me" Edit: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=brei...nh=126&tbnw=157&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:104 [IMG]). Obviously people as young as 43 do indeed die of natural causes. 43 year olds do indeed have a niche in the distribution plot of deaths by natural causes.

I hate to say it Quig, but there's something wrong with your smiley menu...it seems to be permanently stuck on the one icon....what are the odds of that???? Now...given the statistical improbability of this happening of natural causes.... I have this conspiracy theory.........

Are there "dots" to connect into a pattern?

Let's see, Judge Napolitano (outspoken Constitutional advocate on Fox News) was fired recently.

Then Pat Buchanan (outspoken CNN(?)conservative commentator) was fired around the same time.

Now Breitbart, the flamethrowing alternate media conservative, meets an untimely death just before a major 2012 election news release by his office.

How many other unreported threats and veiled messages to conservative media personalities have occurred?

How many "dots" are valid; and how many just "dissonant noise" within the backdrop of random current events?

Let's all keep our discerning eyes and ears in sharp focus for more "dots" to connect to see if there is a pattern of events.[stirpot]

Nano assasination technology...small is bloody beautiful

Probably programmable homing heart stopping nano bots....depending on which party is power depends on whether the conservative nutjob or liberal nutjob homing settings are used. It's as good an explanation as any that are presently doing the rounds of this and other forums.

Being a daddy long leg venom collector would suck. Edit: So would doing it for piece rates! Edit: Unless the piece rates were attractive enough.

    Show us the evidence!!!

If the conspiracy theories are to be believed.....Breibart got the "death" option. Now the thing with conspiracy theories, is that if evidence was to be adduced that actually supported the theory, then it would not be a theory, but proven fact. Show us the evidence!!! Otherwise....it's all fanciful speculation.

Your pot stirring credentials are growing, Gator, lol ; ) You might do better with a bigger paddle though. PLaying conspiracy theories is a lot of fun, and anyone can play it without any real knowledge of the subject...self included.

We will then wait for the lab report on his cause of death...But then again...Those can be altered...

Indeed that is a possibility, that may also be added to the initial conspiracy theory embroidery....but again....show us the evidence that the lab reprt was a doctored fraud, or a forgery or....and so it goes. Conspiracy theoretics is a potentially endless pass-time. Given the circumstances, it would seem that Breibart's family may have the ability to have Breibart's body examined by a forensic pathologist independant of the city/county/state medical examiner. It would be interesting to see whether there was any disagreement between the forensic reports if that course of action were to be taken by Breibart's family.

It's a shame that our government is distrusted enough so that theories like this come up.By the way, there's a chemical compound,I think it's rauwolfia serpentina,IIRC,that when inhaled can cause a fatal heart attack..

Trust is something that is earned and I can't say that the lords in charge have given many reasons to trust them.
