Oh man. I had to run to my site and I missed it. Congrats!

Lil old Survivalmonkey hits 200,000 posts.

How long before we hit 250?

200K is quite an achievement, but just the members submitting posts 1-5 of this thread represents 1.8% of all posts. (admittedly melbo's stats at some 10K or so puts his contributions as an outrider on the plot)

Now , to be honest, relatively few members, compared to the overall membership contribute to the greater bulk of posts. Every day I look at who's logged into the site, and there are a significant number of people who lurk rather than post. There is nothing wrong with that. Just that their contributions would expand the volume of posts considerably if they also participated in the discussion. We would probably all gain from that.

It is nice of late, that there are some more women who are participating. The girls here must enjoy the added company. I know that I am enjoying the new perspectives that come from new blood.

I can't say that I have seen much in the way of "liberal" / Democrat commentary...perhaps the liberals and Democrats are keeping a low profile. It's not so easy, carrying the load for a bunch of lurking liberals and Democrats...I sometimes wish that they would speak with on their own voice on their own behalf. Not that what I often have to say is particularly radically progressive, at least in the context of my own country's politics...where the the right wing of the Australian Labor Party (right wing of the progressives) is virtually indistinguishable to the "wets" of the Liberal Party of Australia (left wing of the conservatives) as far as policies go.

    Left leaners on the Monkey?
    they must be gooberment plants!

No prepper is a lefty. Lefties know that the government is going to take care of them.

The rest of us know the government is not looking to do more than fleece the populace. And spread the money around across entitlement programs.

    Which us monkeys abhor*

*with the exception of social security, which is where we are actually trying to get back our own money that they have stolen from us in the first place.

    Prepping should be apolitical.

That said, I like to surround myself with as many democrats as i can. I'll let them absorb the first couple of volleys whilst I slip into the spider hole.

So it should, indeed. Politics isn't SM's bag at all; politics is a sidelight issue. However, libs have a tendency to think dot goob will protect and serve them, and quite possibly think prepping (or study of it) isn't needed, so don't stay around longer than it takes to figure out our primary mission.

I like lurkers, both guest and quiet members. Somebody might be learning something. (Or making lists ---.)

Truly, I enjoy the interaction with individuals that hold different opinions or values than I. Sometimes frustrates the hell out of me. Blood pressure rises. But in the end even if we can not come to an agreement at least we have probably all been better for it. Even the lurkers.

Hell, I even like some of Chellovecks stuff ! [stirpot]

Seriously though, Any lurkers, please join in. We don't ask for real names, addresses, DOB, SSN, Mother's maiden name nor where you were born. Everyone has experiences that differ than the rest. So unless you are GunKid or other such troll type, go ahead and post, we don't byte.

That's not quite the kind of glowing approval that I was seeking....but I'm grateful for whatever acknowledgement I get. ; )

As I have said previously....there's nothing wrong with lurking...I was a lurker for some months before submitting my maiden post, and since then, haven't looked back. Sometimes it takes a little time to develop the confidence to feel that what you think is worth sharing, and often it's questions asked rather than answers given that will be the subject of early posts.

As far as I, and others are concerned the more active folk are in the forums the better it is for all....I have often learned things from folk new to the site as much as I have from the veteran members.

I obviously don't speak for lurkers here, but I was one who lurked for a while before posting anything. I still don't post very much, because I still feel like the new kid on the block.

I can tell you that for me, I'm just reading and learning as much as I can. I have some areas where I feel pretty well qualified, even a few where I would go so far as to say I'm actually qualified to offer advice. :)

But there are so many more areas wherein my skills are lacking, and often in areas that many or most of you take for granted. Add to that the fact that I am 50 years old, and just now beginning to get serious with prepping - AND the fact that I am just beginning to get a little (very little) extra income that I can spend on this - AND the fact that I have a wife who is teetering on the brink of embracing some of this, and you will understand how I may feel that I need to tread lightly.

Besides, I really don't have a whole hell of a lot to contribute to most of these conversations. You guys have a lot more experience at most of it than I do. Now if you just really want to get me going, talk to me about unarmed self defense, or knife and stick fighting. :) Get me riled by telling me that one of the thousand year old "traditional" martial arts is just as good as FMA, Krav Maga, or MCMAP. LOL.

But ITMT, I'll continue to read. I'll jump in when the topic is something that I know something about, and I'll ask questions if I'm working on something that I think you guys can help me with. But I know enough to keep quiet at other times and learn what I can.

Im glad to see the Monkey moving forward 200k, this is like my second home and I have made new friends that would not have been possible thanks to the Monkey. I am a kind of stay to myself and watch type person because there are only a few of us true preppers and we are a funny breed when it comes other people. As for the people lurking do join in I was worried when I first came to the Monkey I had never been part of a sight like this. I had looked over some of the other sites and seen how people was talked to and treated. I thought damn what smart a$$e$. I looked over the Monkey and liked what I seen so I joined and posted. From the first post I was treated like you guys had known me forever with respect, friendship and I have to admitt I really enjoy the fact we can post how we feel on a topic argue it and still no hard feelngs and how we all try not to offend each other. When one is offended and if someone finds they are wrong we say so and we say sorry. You will not find that on no other site I have and I am still learnig alot of helpful info here.
