Extreme sports and wilderness don't mix. “Ultra-Running” Celebrity Micah True Found Dead in Desert - Wilderness Survival Techniques | Wilderness Survival Techniques
Better late than "the late"... He's not the first...he won't be the last. Death by misadventure...or death by stupidity...it doesn't matter much either way...he's still dead. Although found in or near water...and having a full water bottle on him just indicates that his need for hydration was trumped by his want for speed...in the end...he bacame so dehydrated that his thought processes were so impaired that he could not sensibly realise that he was in danger...nor the necessity of changing from competitive runner mode into survival mode. Just another Darwin award winner that finished dead in time. Some long distance runners will literally have a "melt down", which can be a killer. http://ucantgiveup.com/doc/StuartLinesIS.pdf
I pick up a running magazine and perused the contents. I was stunned to learn that top finishers in some of the ultra marathon events accept the risk, as a matter of course, that some of them will experience symptoms of kidney failure as they push their bodies beyond its designed limit. That just about leaves me speechless.
Its sad really. The people that die from this are in fantastic shape and serve as a lesson in bother perserverance and a need for everyone to know their limit.
