Ok, So WHO guarantees, That there are NO Backdoors, in this Distribution?
Who supplies the Secure Socket Layer Encryption Keys, and the guarantees that they can NOT be Compromised from the Outside, or from a "Man in The Middle" Exploit? It sounds Interesting, HOWEVER, Inquiring Minds, will Need to know, BEFORE they leap in.... JusT doing the Due Diligence.... YMMV....

Oh don't get me wrong, here. I am leaping in as well, I just will NOT put my Trust, in the technology, until the Answers, are well understood.... I am more than willing, to spend some time, in Test Mode. Let me know Brokor, if you need a Testing Partner.... .... YMMV....

I don't know anything about backdoors but being 100% open source, it is open to scrutiny.
As far as the overall security, this page may explain: DE(E)SU - Security and Anonymity in Liberté Linux

The FAQ is even better as it points to the fact that this is built on Hardened Gentoo which is a very well checked out distribution. DE(E)SU - Liberté Linux FAQ

Wouldn't testing require someone to try breaking the code?

When I read this is secure as I doubt the CIA etc advertises what codes they can break; I think how do they know?

I burned the .iso to CD and it didn't compile when I ran it, so I DL'd the .zip file and extracted to a 1 GB USB drive.

The USB works great. Typing this in Liberte using Tor right now from the thumb drive.

Now to figure out how to chat...Got it. Irc servers (secured and unsecured)

    Email - awesome. Serverless. Terrific.

Once you set this up, you share your Claws mail addy with chosen friend. Let's see if it works.

*edit* NOPE. I must be using the mail client incorrectly. I have two setups running. I do not understand this stuff. Getting Claw Mail to work is gonna take some effort.

*edit AGAIN* Wow...this is so cool. It works! I actually had a write issue on one of my USB drives, so I basically did a reformat (3 times) and reset to FAT system. It likes that. I tried FAT 32 but that sucked, so did allocation size, set to 16kb or something ridiculously small. ANYWAY, it uses Tor, so to try and test I have 2 setups, each running on their own USB. One USB is a 4GB and the other is a 1GB. No difference between the two.

Mail takes maybe 3 minutes to go through. I have it set to receive a verification once email has been delivered successfully. That's cool.

Still testing. Gonna try different encryption methods.

I WOULD LIKE MY OWN IRC SERVER. Hrm...

Tested Pidgin. Works fine. I now have 2 ICQ accounts. lol.

CIA doesn't do Code Breaking... That is an NSA Job.... and NSA does in effect PUBLISH what they can and can't break.... in the Scientific Papers they Publish in the Peer Reviewed Journals.... Breaking, is totally different from Backdoors... Breaking takes MASSIVE Computing Power and Time, along with some very Sophisticated Math..... Backdoors alleviate the need to spend all that time and Processing Power on Breaking a cypher, as they have a way in right from the Start.

MonkeyNet uses GPG Encryption, OnePad Encryption, and Stegography Encryption. The first two are functionally Un-Breakable in realtime, and basically UnBreakable in anything but YEARS, in todays world. NSA just doesn't have the time and Processing Power to deal with either of these two, EXCEPT in confirmed National Security CASES. When their latest incarnation of the BruteForce Machine is completed, that Time, may be down to Months, but certain NOT Real time. Stegography is breakable in Months, today, and maybe weeks in the future, HOWEVER, you must KNOW that something is in the File, BEFORE you try to break in, and that is the beauty of Stego... Pictures of GrandMa and the Grandkids are way to numerous to deal with.

Just Sayen..... YMMV.... but I LIKE the Liberte as a LINK Layer System, on which MonkeyNet can run....

Been Looking for a replacement for skype, ever since MicroSquash bought them out.... I have NEVER trusted Uncle Billy or his predecessor, to not have played fast and lose, with the NSA and other Letters outfits.... the original skype stuff was developed Off-shore by some folks with fairly good Privacy Considerations, in mind, but I consider it "compromised" SINCE THE BuyOut. I will only run their Older Versions, from BEFORE that time, and that is what is distributed in our MonkeyNet Distribution. I will look into this APP here in a few days, and then we will see..... thanks for the Tip, I appreciate it...

I don't know what the CIA does or doesn't do.

However, they did hire someone to work with cryptography and there is Langley's Cryptographic Center.

Downloading now and installing to 16GB drive shortly.
If all goes smoothly I'll distribute to a few friends for testing as well.

Edit: That google search now shows the monkey as the #1 result as well.
