The Tarus uses 5 round full moon clips so it should work out... $8.00 for a pack of 5... cheaper than most magazines...

I think the Taurus head spaces off of the Cartridge face, the moon clips are for loading and unloading ease.

using a 9x18 makarov in anything but a makarov is tempting fate. Makarov round is .365" and the Luger is .355

the .380 acp while the use the same .355 round. I'm not sure i want the jacket swedging itself against the rim shelf 2mm away to many times.

It might be interesting to find a straight bored cylinder that headspaces off the moonclips I think that's how S&W does it. One might even be able to use a 9x21IMI or 9x23 largo (not the 9x23 winchester it has increased chamber pressure and think the jacket is thicker plus case diameter is ~.005 larger) but that would require someone willing to blow up their gun and suffer the consequences.

Anyway, always use the ammo that a weapon is chambered for. Don't come whining to me if you drop a 9x23 winchester in your ruger convertible and wind up coming away with 2 less digits and a piece of cylinder in your orbit socket.

    Taurus sucks..
I would recommend a springfield XD, or Ruger SR9
Both very well built, dependable, and way more rugged in a SHTF scenario.

I would consider them if they made a 'REVOLVER' that took 9mm. I believe that is what the thread was originally concerning.

My bad for not even reading the title fully.. Still this is an example of quality control at Taurus..and a REVOLVER as well.

I know that Ruger chambered the SP101 in 9mm a few years ago. They still sell moon clips for it on thier site. I hope they do a couple more runs of them, but until then its gonna be a gun broker thing i guess....

Many owners of Taurus and Rossi handguns are well pleased. Today, even Colt and SW are a shadow of their former selves, qualitywise. It comes down to choice. If it does the job for the owner, that is all that matters.

my single-stack of choice for shooting competitions is the Taurus 1911. It is far superior to my Kimbers and Colts, of which I own several of each. i do not believe it can be beat until you start to get into the Les Bauer and a very small handful of other extremely Custom pistols.

That is true. I have an old S&W that I love, but was very disappointed when I bought a new one a year ago. I know people who have Taurus that have never had problems and people that have had nothing but problems.
I would take a gun that was rated 3 stars by everyone, over a gun that was rated 5 stars by some and 1 star by others any day though.
Essentially I would rather have a gun that was consistently average, over a gun with no consistency at all. Of course the best choice is a gun that is consistently great.
When generalizing overall gun manufacture's quality I look for consistency. I just have never found that to be the case with Taurus.
That is why I personally as a consumer do not plan on purchasing one, and would not recommend one.

Would you please tell me what is wrong with the photo you posted and how it relates to quality control.

Understand that I have no opinion on Taurus. However, if that ratchet is typical of what comes out of the factory, it's really poor machining. Worth noting is that the picture was scanned in from a magazine.

Also looks like it is the Judge, since it has both 45 LC and 410 loaded.

That ratchet is pretty bad. I just compared my 1972-production Ruger Securitysix to it, and the Ruger ratchet is far cleaner, fewer machining marks, and the teeth are shorter with the center section being a beefy 'ring' of steel - the Taurus ratchet looks very amatuerish by comparison. I could see a tooth breaking eventually. Need to check my buddy's Taurus 44Mag and Rossi .357Mag to compare.

  13. Without knowing your intended uses, I will offer this thought.

If one has a ruger blackhawk with the 357 / 9mm cylinders then one has the ability to fire 3 of the most common and available calibers out there.

For possible self defense I would only consider a 9mm in a semi auto handgun.

Then again each person should choose what suits their perceived wants and needs.

That's freedom for ya aint it?

  14. I actually found a .357 / 9mm convertable blackhawk with the 4 5/8 barrel and rubber grips at a local shop today.

Handling it I was very tempted to grab it up. (well to start the 5 day wait.)

It felt very good in my hand, and the ammo is not only common, but fairly inexpensive in bulk and I have set up to reload 9mm and 357/38 already.

I may just have to go look again tomorrow.

He was asking $445.00 for it. Seems pretty good for a old but NIB blackhawk. (Said he had it sitting there for a while now.)

Does anyone know what the going prices on the would be?

I'm kind of thinking of pairing it up with a short (16 inch or so ) lever in 357.

Sounds fair. I too have all three die sets - 9mm, .38Special and .357 Magnum - so it would be a pretty good choice.

  17. Looks like it is on the low side of typical, Guess I'm gonna ride back up there and at least hold it again.

I do enjoy the way it feels in my hand. And to be honest, it would be a lot less expensive to shoot than the .44 or .45 black hawks I have.

I am starting to spend a lot more time with the .22LR revolvers, but it just isn't as satisfying as the larger ones.
