Will "They" - Military Veterans - Support Obama?

The short answer is apparently "Yes", a majority of military veterans will support Obama; at least, according to this Reuters news story.

Weary warriors favor Obama - Yahoo! News

    Excerpts:

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Reuters) - Mack McDowell likes to spend time at the local knife and gun show "drooling over firearms," as he puts it. Retired after 30 years in the U.S. Army, he has lined his study with books on war, framed battalion patches from his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, a John Wayne poster, and an 1861 Springfield rifle from an ancestor who fought in the Civil War.

But when it comes to the 2012 presidential election, Master Sergeant McDowell is no hawk.

In South Carolina's January primary, the one-time Reagan supporter voted for Ron Paul "because of his unchanging stand against overseas involvement." In November, McDowell plans to vote for the candidate least likely to wage "knee-jerk reaction wars."

Disaffection with the politics of shock and awe runs deep among men and women who have served in the military during the past decade of conflict. Only 32 percent think the war in Iraq ended successfully, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. And far more of them would pull out of Afghanistan than continue military operations there.

If the election were held today, Obama would win the veteran vote by as much as seven points over Romney, higher than his margin in the general population.

    ........

Karen Grafton, 51, a real estate agent who served 20 years in the Air Force, who voted for Obama in 2008 based on his promise to end the Iraq war, now says, "I want someone to get us out of this economic turmoil. That's No. 1. I'm not sure he is the person to do that. But I don't blame him. He inherited a mess."

In his study, below a movie poster of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," McDowell, the Ron Paul supporter, flipped through pages of an 82nd Airborne Division yearbook, lingering on photographs of dead comrades. He recalled their ages, how many children they had, and how they died.

Partly for their sake, he avidly follows the campaign. He was turned off by mudslinging among Republican candidates, he said. And Obama? "If no one else can get their act together, I'll vote for that Democrat," he said. "My concern is who will do right for the soldier."

It would be hard to find a veteran that feels that way in my neck of the woods. What alot of people don't realize is that if Clinton took care of business when the U.S.S Cole was bombed some of this could have been avoided or at least mitigated to some degree. Iraq should have been taken care of the first time in my opinion. I have friends that have served several tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes they are weary ,yes I think our military and political leaders failed the soldiers, airmen ,sailors and marines but I do not see most of them voting for Obama just to get us out of a war they may or may not agree with.

Whenever I am approached with the concept of entering a discussion, be it verbal or typed online, I remember the saying, "Small minds talk about people, average minds bring up events, but great minds discuss ideas."

In the spirit of this thought, and as not to detract from the subject matter in any way, I propose the idea that we keep in mind the very real possibility that people cannot afford to be drawn too far deep into the contaminated realm of imagined politics when our nation and our very existence depends upon action to resolve the emergency. And so, it is with great excitement I remind any who read this, that any "vote" placed today pales in comparison to what we do to keep our government in line the other 364 days of each year. The popular vote is far too overrated by the media and the masses anyway, and the real battle is with capturing the delegates -it is an act that Ron Paul's campaign has had very good success.

The military is just one more special interest group on a long list of disillusioned voters who really have nothing to do with who the next puppet will be for the globalists. The only point to the media sensationalism behind these topics, is to create the support for change to occur with the lowest amount of dissent, and this amounts to being proactive policy or damage avoidance at best. As long as the masses remain asleep and entangled in this web of deceit, the musicians in the slavery orchestra continue to play with no troubles.

As far as this Military Retiree goes, Hell No !!! I would hope that most military veterans are not so shallow as to be a one issue voter. Obummer has stacked up such a large list of traitorous acts since fraudulently being allowed to ascend to the highest political position in the land, how could any thinking veteran vote for Obummer?
    .
I am whole heartedly against all this foreign aggression in worthless sand lands draining american lives and blood.
    .
There is more than one way to get what you want. Congress is supposed to control the purse strings for war. Lugar of Indianna learned the hard way to ignore the ground swell of dissatisfaction against the government and for the values of the Tea Party.
    .
I expect a demoncratic party upset among those still remaining in the house and senate. With control of the entire or great majority of both houses of congress I believe that with Obummer gone we will have change of the right type.[dunno]

We need to get beyond the idea that ANYONE allowed to occupy they White House has any interest in the condition or welfare of folks in this country.

The country is run by a group of banksters and industrialists that use the military as a means to enforce THEIR interests and agendas.

To think that any "elected" president has any independent thoughts or actions allowed is simply to fail to see the obvious.....that they are ALL puppets for public consumption, and have no effect on the course this country is headed.

A vote for either of the major parties is simply a vote for more of the same with a different face attached.

Want to REALLY make a difference....quit voting. Don't lend one ounce of credibility to a sham of a system.

That would only work if everyone quit voting. =) Drop out, tune out, farewell. Until then we have Ron Paul to support. Folks say "he will never win", but it's not about that. It's about taking your voting ballot and shoving it right up Uncle Sam's hind-side. We support the Constitution and the republic...period. Message sent.

Everything else you said I agree with, naturally!

Exactly! We used to elect the best from among us, and after they had served a term or two, they would say "OK boys, I've done my civic duty, now send someone else". Then they would go back to their private lives.

I am truly frightened that even with opening up the presidency to foreigners this is the best either party can do. Might as well put up larry and moe, with shemp and curly as respective vp's as candidates.
