Voting Dilemma

Do you vote party, the lesser of two evils or do you cast your vote on your principles? What is correct? I have been debating this in my head and I would like to know what others are thinking.

IMO, America is in trouble and the world is on the cusp. Do you vote for the best of the two parties or do you vote for someone who you feel will not play the games and truly work for the good of the country? Granted I know that what I feel is best for the country may not be what others think is the best but...

How many times do I hear to cast a vote for a third party or to write in is a waste of a vote. Yet, it should send a message. If you choose to send a message and the country ends up electing the worse candidate, then what have you accomplished. In the past I have never had this dilemma but I feel the country is two step away for disaster.

As much as I dislike Romney I'll be voting for him simply because once Obama is re-elected he will have nothing to lose, no ass to kiss and we will see the greatest loss of rights since... well since his current term. Focus on picking the best congressional candidates you can. The presidential race isn't nearly as important as people believe. With the proper senators and representatives even the worst of presidents can be reined in.

Aside from that, stockpile registered voters in your choice of calibers and wait for voting season to begin.

Sadly I will have to vote "Against obama" too - hate Romney, but voting for an independent simply throws the bone to bobo.......

    This "Two-Party System" sucks bigtime........

Since the delegates are all that really matters, I generally do not vote.

Unless the candidate is someone like Ron Paul --and I only vote to give a middle finger to the establishment.

I will not vote for that Rino even if it means another term for the usurper. There is not a democratic solution to the problems we face in our country. Romney is just the other side of the same damned coin being tossed to see who and how they take our liberty and spend our money.

I will not vote for the lesser of two evils, anymore. I've learned my lesson for getting screwed either way. I'm just going to sit back and see what unfolds, it will not make a difference what puppet is in office.

I thank you all for your honesty. Maybe I am looking through rose-colored glasses but I do like to think that my vote counts. I am from back East and I know Massachusetts really well- I would never live there but I watched their news enough to make judgements. I do like Ron Paul and I do like Gary Johnson because they seem so honest. Imagine politician that speak their mind, not what people want to hear.

I recall years ago I voted for Perot. People have said that because of people like me Bush 1 lost. I didn't like him. I just think that maybe this election is to important to stand for my beliefs. I would like to think that R. Rebel is correct that if we elect Senators and Congressmen that the President would be held in check. Yet having written that, we currently have a President that basically declares what he so chooses and no one steps up to stop him.

And those of you that don't vote you should, it is free. Actually if you run into some Acorn people they will give you beer, butts and pizza for your vote. You don't have to vote the way they want you to. Just take the perks & cast your vote.

Colt and Sea, you are mostly right, it makes little if any difference who sits in the oval office. Start getting serious about your representatives. In politics, actions start at the bottom of the totem pole, they can support or topple the head.

The importance of voting goes in this order for me.
Local/municipal typically R vs. D vs. Independent. Typically R or independent.
Regional little more diverse R,D,Indi, green, etc. typically go indi
State. R&Ds suck so i go indi or other 3rd party
Fed HR Senate. these pork barrelers are sucking off the corp tit so indi.
president, it's either Dr. Ron Paul (R) or from the Constitution party Virgil Hamlin Goode, Jr. of Virginia

for me local regional politics is more important. as we can have greater influence before these folks have been bought by special interests.

but that's just my opinion in the world of insanity.
I have NEVER bought into the line that voting for other than the 'approved candidates' is a wasted vote.

I have only known one truly honest man trying to get into local politics, my old supervisor from some years back. He was running for a city council seat, but I am a county resident and could not vote in the city election. He didn't have the money for a lot of advertising, and our city council is heavilly 'racially biased' (if you take my meaning) and he had no chance. Too bad, as Haynes had some very good intentions.....
I figure though that by the time ANY politician reaches state and federal level, he has had to 'play the game' just to rise that far, and is beholden to someone, and has to become a part of the problem.
Even Ron Paul isn't squeaky clean - as well as his age against him, and the simple truth that even if he did get the nod for POTUS, BOTH parties would stonewall him, and he'd be able to get nothing constructive done. I generally like him, but I consider him simply unelectable at this time.
Given another four years of obamanomics and uberlib control, things may look up for the younger Paul. If he can garner enough support, I'd vote for him.

Many of us here on the Monkey have served our country- to defend our way of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all fellow Americans. I could not sit on my hands and not vote allowing for the continuation of the Obummer administration.

It is my opinion that for every person you tell "I am not going to vote", you are influencing them to do the same. Though I agree with Romney being a Rhino of sorts, he is the much better option to slow the slide into socialism that currently is banging on the door.

    I vote. I vote principles.

I also vote by voting record. No matter what my representatives/future representatives say they will do; I always check to see what they have done. Words are only words until they're backed up by action/inaction.

I do understand the importance of the lower end of the totem pole - and I do my best to try and get others to see that, too.

I strongly believe in term limits (and I vote that way, too). Incumbents beware.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.

My problem with the whole thing is that I do not believe that it matters, and has not mattered for a long time.

I think the Republicans and Democrats are just two sides of the same plan, a plan which has been under way at least as far back as FDR.

Big government is the evil empire and currently both parties are guilty of the continuation of it's growth. What needs to change is the voice of the people and actions to make our government work the way it is suppose to. For to long the people have sat on the side lines and not been engaged, letting our government and leaders run wild with our tax dollars, that has to change. We need to be active in our democracy and vetting our politicians continually. When they do things we don't agree with, we need to be heard loud and clear. This fall will be one of those times when we as a nation, undivided, need to stand and be heard. We need to shout from the top of the mountain that the status quo just won't do. We need to install leaders at local, state and national levels that believe in this country, it's law's and the people for which it stands for. Nothing less should be accepted!!!

  19. This is interesting.
I think there is a third party candidate that can bring our country to where it should be, but what happens if not enough people jump on board?
Romney makes me sick, but The O is worse.
What happens if the votes get split between third party and Romney, we would be screwed again.
I really wish Romney and Paul would some how join together that way it will seal the deal.
I can honestly say I will not be happy voting for Romney, unless Jindal is VP. He needs a VP with a brain since he is lacking. My neighbor told me Jindal is thinking about the offer, I think it would do our country some good to have him up there. He's a very smart man and loves this country.
