Digi is on the way out for many Units. Multicam does a better job in all but the frozen white and the desert.

    This from Flecktarn.

"Flecktarn.co.uk is proud to announce that we now have German Multicam gear in stock. Made by Tasmanian Tiger, supplier to German Special Forces, the Multicam webbing adds a German variety to the standard Multicam offerings designed for M4/L85 magazines. Multicam outfitting for German forces is taking place for special units on field ops. Products include: Multicam ammunition pouches for G36 magazines and the MG4 machinegun (27.00 GBP), 40mm grenade pouch (15.00GBP), horizontal utility pouch (18.00 GBP) and ID wallet (12.00 GBP)."

Wear 'em if you got 'em.

Nice. I have the Tasmanian Tiger backpack, military issue and I love it. It is Flektarn, but meh. Fits awesome.

All my gear is Desert MARPAT. Meh. Like Brokor says, fits nice, so I wear it. Then again, my entire group has Desert MARPAT gear. I am friends with far too many former Marines ;). Even my other gear is coordinated color. Flecktarn was super popular back in the late 80's early 90's back when woodland cammo BDUs were still issue for the US forces. I was not a big fan of Flecktarn, but some of my buddies swore by it.

Generally, Flecktarn doesn't work well in my AO - too much red in it. BUT..... I did noticed that right after a controlled burn, the dead tree and bush leaves do take on a coloration that would work with Flecktarn.

Cool. I'm a fan. Multicam seems to work well everywhere I have seen, not just the AFG AOR.

Flat dark earth is my close second..... same camo that deer and yotes' have been using for a millennium.

Once it gets infantry dirty with local colors, plain old olive drab works well..

Time and place, for me most of the year 6 color choclate chip works. I have the Tree Rats test my Camo. If they can't see me from their pearch then I'm pretty invisiable. Second is the Flecktarn Desert then the Brit DRP Desert.

Of course groups rule and friendly fire is not a good hazard.

Squirrels aren't a reliable test of camo. They key on movement. In my younger days, I hunted the tree rats wearing jeans and a red plaid shirt - always got my limit. Had a deer walk right up on me once.

Camo is most important in conditions of either of two main situations, stalking heavily hunted animals or of you being hunted by humans.

With very little pressure of wild life being hunted most anyone can harvest game for a limited time. The more you miss the more cautious the game becomes and the more important effective Camo, then again a poor shot usually can't harvest game with Camo. Sooner or later game will be hunted to the extreme to the point that more energy is used than is harvested in game.

A point often missed by your "I can Live off the land" amateur that mainly lives in the cities and think they can have no BOB, no food and no water and with only a rifle they can survive in the country. Those types will be the main danger as time progresses.

In my case I am now in a heavily hunted/trafficked area. Coyotes, hawks, cougars, bob cats and of course me. I find that the chocolate chip camo is effective due to the leaf layer and the dry underbrush in the area I hunt.

In the past, in this area, I have killed deer at 50 feet in an area where I was wearing levis and a T shirt while cutting fire wood only a moment before. In the same area I could walk up within 100 feet of a flock of wild turkey, the feathered type, and watch them as long as I wished. no hunting pressure and no fear, but that only last till the first shot or misplaced movement.

Even now, as I walk with the cattle, I can be within 10 feet of a cotton tail. BUT if the dog is with me, even on a leash the best I can hope for is 50 feet. Animals learn quick or they die.

Hunting pressure, time and place all require whatever works in the way of Camo and stalking. My feeling is the US BDU of old is a piece of crap. It always had too much black and too little dispersed coloring.

    YMMV

Looking for the"out of Place item" and in this case the helmets give them away.

Then check the best guess trail and they POP. Still the Camo fits the area.

The human brain is an enormously capable pattern search engine, which is why camo needs to work against it far more than animals.

Animals rely on other senses and also see in different parts of the spectrum than humans.

Make sure to avoid laundry detergent with UV brightener, and for hunting scent is to be avoided as well.
