Call from a close friend, he and his wife and sister in a head on collision and in the hospital - could I come. By sheer luck, they all survived, battered and bruised but alive. The wife has a broken sternum and undergoing tests for heart and arterial damage. My friend was in the back seat, no seat belt, and he flew to the windshield, lost consiousness for a while but will be okay. Sister has banged up knee. It could have been so much worse and there are many of us grateful tonight that lives were spared. I treasure the few friends I have.
The friend is Mike Sadlak and I got he and his sister home to recover. His wife Sue will be laid up for a while. I may have to go to Camp Perry in Mike's place this year, we'll see. My spirit is warmed that he would call me first when he needed help. We've been through a lot together in the past 15 - 20 years, things which build friendships and a relationship on which we can rely. We don't get too many of those in one lifetime.
