Do You Have A Gun In Your House?

I got this in an email from my mother; don't know if it is accurate or not but she think it is so I thought I might pass it on:
When I had my gangrene gallbladder taken out and spent 10 days in the hospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was asked if I had guns in the house. I respond that if I did I would not tell them. So the below has some merit.

FYI, I am passing this along...there are comments from two other people I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kind of slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask.

Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they have no idea who does and who doesn't. My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I, of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack.

The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare, and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation.. One of the questions on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My answer was None of your damn business!!

So it is out there! It is either an insurance issue or government intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (as they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...Thanks, from a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer: I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along. While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:1. Did I feel stressed? 2. Did I feel threatened? 3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?

The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have? Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner, veteran or not, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !

If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.

This is already active. I've seen the .gov provided terminals in every exam room I've been in over the past 2 years. The questions and your stats are all entered into this system.

Its also where all those extra questions come from.

I've seen this happen at the VA once. If you check the box that you have guns...AND you are prescribed anti-depressants or are diagnosed with PTSD, those guns will be confiscated (in this case by the local sheriff's office). I'm not sure if the practice is widespread, but I know that it happened on this occasion.

The .gov is working towards what they call an EHR (electronic health record). Do a search for EHR and "meaningful use." Hospitals/doctors' offices get federal money for complying with these mandates (to collect this data).

Man! What kind of Nanny State do you live in?

First the VA is a GOV Org and the Sheriff is a County Org. In my state and in a case or three I know of the Sheriff sent the feds on down the road just for being in his county and not requesting his help.

To remove you or your guns requires a court order after a mental evaul and a Judge that is willing to be un elected as well as the Sheriff if the paper work is not in order.

This "theme" has been going around the internet for years.

You must be "Judged" dangerous or other, depending on state, for any Sheriff to cross your door step and then he muct have a court order.

    YMMV

Pretty much any of those Nanny States still trump the State of Denial that some of us seem to live in. I can't even begin to list all the times someone has summarily dismissed many of these things as just being "internet paranoia going around" only to find it was worse by far than what was "going around the internet". You got idea how many Tin-foil Hat" threads have had to moved into the main forums here because suddenly it actually slapped one of us in the face? What you said was pretty much true until about 2000 but since the "Patriot" Act and all the little executive orders...not so much any more.

There is a REASON, that a lot of the Monkeys in this Tree, have had serious Boating Accidents, in the last ten years... Many of them reported to local LE, just to be "On Record".... A lot of sScrap Iron, at the bottom of many lakes and rivers.....

Do you owe them an honest answer ?

Telling them it is none of their business is like telling them yes.
After all "If you have nothing to hide, why not tell them ?"

    I have a simple solution.......LIE!!!

No sir, I do not own a gun and think every single one should be banned from the face of the earth.
My dear sweet momma was killed because someone left their unattended gun on the sidewalk.

We are lied to daily so why not return the favor in kind?

    seriously.......
it has nothing to do with the service you are receiving......
if you legally posess something, who needs to know you have it

I lie and have no problem doing it.

When I go to the pediatrician...every once in a while, I get asked "Are there any guns in the house?"

    "Nope."

They never ask: "Do you have any toxic cleaners under the sink that are accessible to your children?" Or, "Do you have a pool?" Pools kill more kids every year than guns.

So, when you think about things, why do they ask that question? For what purpose do they want to know that you have a gun in the house? All other questions relate in some way to 'medical history,' but not the one about guns.

Think about it......and commit civil disobedience.

I think pretty soon though, one of my kids is going to bust me: "Daddy, you're lying...you're not supposed to lie....that's the worst thing that you can do."

Before that happens you need to teach them that lying is not "the worst thing you can do."

  14. CATO

    CATO Monkey+++

Right now...lying IS the worst thing they can do.

There is a difference between the worst thing they can do and the worst thing a human being can do.

That is something children need to be taught, before one of those worse things happens to them.

Then you should tell that to your kids....and I will fully support you in your effort to pass down your values to them. My values are that they need to worry about their behavior only and I'll worry about everything else. Maybe when they get to Kindergarten, I will tell them of the perils of not using your brain and its horrific side-effect of being a liberal.

OK...the story: a guy I work with (who is a doctor and does part-time work at the VA) told me a story of a guy who was upset about some treatment/lack thereof/or not having the VA pay for something. They guy said some pretty 'heat-of-the-moment' type things. A "counselor" came to discuss the matter with him and she, who happened to be a shrink, determined that he was "a danger to himself or others" because of his PTSD. She called the sheriff and because he had mention his guns, the sheriff took them while a psych evaluation was ran.

I was just told two weeks ago by a Vietnam vet that he couldn't apply for a CCW because he was diagnosed with PTSD. He also stated that he dared not let any "of them sumbitches" know that he had guns for fear of them being taken. He's tied to the man now...on disability...must act the part or they'll take away his money.

I guess they're both lying....hoping I would start another myth for snopes to check out and to have a bunch of old, fat, white dudes send around e-mails about the topic in outrage.
