This has been brought up about 1001 times in the back rooms of sm but I thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone had any interest in survivalmonkey.com logo shirts, etc. Was looking around at some different options like etching on metal items some online shops where you can put a logo on numerous products yourself, etc. Maybe we should just get a few things made on some high quality, USA sweatshirts or t-shirts and make them available for members? Open to thoughts
hmm, advertise that you are a monkey? Not sure. Maybe a challenge coin would be cool but again the 'to fly under the radar' comes to mind. Just my 2 copper clad zinc cents that are worth .. well, not much.
That has definitely come up in past discussions. The one idea that had some traction was some sort of flag that didn't necessarily scream sm but had some clues to those who might be able to read into the symbolism. We've also discussed engraved/etched AR-15 uppers, zippos, stainless cups that nested with nalgene bottles and a bunch more things. Just thought of it again because we get a few requests a month for logo'd items. Maybe the t-shirt idea isn't good but maybe a bug out bag or range bag would be more appropriate.
I like that idea of a dog tag. Also would be interested in getting a patch for my bug out bags and other gear. This way you wouldn't be advertising anything until it worked in your favor.
This is going in the direction I hoped it would. Cool stuff that can be hidden in a pocket or pack. As much as I love this site, I think that a t-shirt would see little public use from me.
I can see the logo on ball caps and tees. I can also see a challenge coin as proof if challenged. Now, how that holds up if someone joins and fades out, I don't know. Maybe no coin until active member for X years? The ball caps, or jackets, or tees are revenue enhancements for the site, as well as potentially driving hits. Dog tags also good idea.
So rather than a challenge coin, how about a collectible coin? Maybe a 1oz silver round with SM logo on one side and some sort of survivalistic imagery/text on the other side? GIM told me that we could use their dies for one side if we wanted - IIRC, they cost $1500 to cut.
I would be up for a T and Ball Cap... minimum....No one around here would think anything of them, since they all wear Logo'd T's and Ball Caps... In case of Fact, the GM of the Cannery, has a Ball Cap Collection that is quite sizable.... They would go very nicely with my FBI Ball Cap and Wind Breaker.... that I traded with the Alaska SAinC, for an FCC Ball Cap and Wind Breaker, back when I was a Fed....
See. I think wearing certain things also depends on where you live and what you like. i don't wear ball caps so I'm personally not interested in them. People who live in Eastern Oregon aren't offended by 'Kill'em all, let God sort'em out' shirts while that might not fly in Aurora CO at the moment.
lol, I was thinking a fundraising drive to pay for the striking dies and then a commitment from members to buy at XX price (locked at a given date) with no money made off the deal by me or sm. Artwork contests, polls on the final design, etc. Would be a hoot.
I like the silver coin idea. At least you could use it if you ever needed to. [But, did you say setting this up costs $1,500.00? However, given the political climate of the day (i.e., suspicion on Constitutionalists = terrorists), overt symbology is just asking for trouble. So, I think having something identifiable by the group is more prudent than a t-shirt/hat/bumpersticker. For example: http://www.trainerswarehouse.com/Top-Banana-Lapel-Pin/productinfo/GIPINB/ Another idea in addition to a probationary period before acquisition, once whatever item is decided upon, it shant be printed/discussed on these pages anywhere. The whatever would be sent to those who want them and only by ownership would you know what it is. Call me paranoid, but this govt. is a whole different kind of worry.
Well, I pledge 100 towards the die. Plus I'd would get a coin (if approved) and a couple dog tags. Maybe some would engrave screen name and join date on them before distribution. I think that challenge coins should have high bar of entry. Maybe it should be by private invite to get the coin. Maybe founders / mods would be the final selectors.
I used to hang out (heavily) on GIM, pre GIM2 - I think the dies were around that much but the GIM guys would let us use the Minuteman or the Bull for one side, we'd need to come up with a die (artwork) for the other side. If we had enough interest, I'd cough up for the die and then just tack a buck on each coin to cover the cost. http://www.apmex.com/Product/66162/999_Fine_1oz_Silver_Rounds___2011___Bull_Variety_.aspx http://www.goldismoney2.com/showthread.php?26171-Pre-Order-Your-GIM-rounds-NOW
I think I kinda forked. A challenge coin is one thing, SM silver rounds are another. Not being military myself, I'm not so sure I like the idea of copying a military tradition and posing to know the respect it commands. Silver coins - fully comfortable. I just love "Abolish the Federal Reserve"
