Hopefully, ColtCarbine will give us his expert opinion.

Briefly, this guy takes a water source, some gravity, and uses it (with some clever plumbing) to pump water to a storage container without using electricity. Now, if you just stuck a generator somewhere in the mix, you'd be all set.

My suggestion is for people to watch the 2nd one first. If you're still interested, the first one shows you how to build it (and is very boring). There's probably more out there on Youtube.

This is nothing NEW, it is 1800s technology, called a Ram Pump....

Did I say it was new? I know what it's called...that's why I put "ram pump" in the subject line.

The point of the post is that all of the ingredients are shown as well as how to make the pump.

But, thanks for the useful comment.

Getting water to where you want it is always useful information.

Don't we all wish we still had the knowledge of those who lived before electricity in our back pocket? I know I do!

My Neighbour from the 1800's land plot(The Cooks) , still has his ram pump supplying the homestead .

Seeing salmon spawn upstream right beside it is amazing .

NC State used to have a class and one of the projects was building a Ram Pump. Things have a great head pressure. Makes the ability to irrigate a breeze with a water source. Can be made from PVC and an inner tube (didn't watch the video). You can also use it to say pump up to a tank and have a water wheel spin a car altenator/generator and create power 24/7. In my mind a good water source is the best thing for off grid survival. They ain't very portable, though. Streams and the like, I mean.
