This is the Sanyo Xacti (VPC-GH4) with HD quality recording, and it takes SD card memory up to 64GB (I think)...well I used 32GB and it worked fine. It was stolen a few months ago and I bought a replacement (used) since I loved it so much. I had to settle for a slightly different model (VPC-GH2) since I couldn't find the same model for a reasonable price.

The used one has some glitches, like flipping the video in the screen when recording (although the recorded video remains upright) and it likes to suck the battery life. So, I am looking for a replacement again.

I do not want to buy anything heavy or bulky, and I must have SD card capability (I love that). Anybody have any luck with a video camcorder they really love? I have several ideas in mind, but not too certain. The GoPro looks good, but I do not know if it is suitable for my purposes.

    bloggie.
Looks good. Sony Bloggie Sport for the win. No SD card, all internal...but 4 hours of 1080i HD is more than enough. It also has an integral battery, but I hear good things about life and I have no problem with USB charging in the truck or home. Compatibility, software, etc...all excellent.

Cruisin Sloth - I can't blame you one bit for not wanting the Sony Bloggie due to it having an internal battery.

For a few weeks now, I have also brushed it aside. After I realized that I actually go through an average of 4 Li-ion batteries per year with my current SD cam, I thought it would actually pay off to have the Sony with a single, internal battery that will last a very long time. The life for the battery under normal operation is quite decent, and it suits all my needs. Of course, it would be great to be in control of the power source and simply pop a new battery in as needed. Luckily, recharge time is fast enough, and I won't be putting it through any long duration recordings. I think it is an acceptable trade-off for having a rugged camera that is lightweight, dependable, and submersible /waterproof down to about 16 feet.

In any case, I will post a review once I give it a thorough run. Here's hoping it works out well!

I shoot video with a DSLR (Canon Rebel T3i) but my next small camera will be a GoPro. Been playing with a Hero at work and really dig the idea of the ruggedness.

I love the GoPro durability and have been wondering how it functions (memory, battery, recording options, etc.) --from what I gathered, it looks to be a basic ruggedized sports camera. Been wanting one for a bit, but always turned back because of the "what if it doesn't suit my needs" reason. Maybe somebody can explain its use and features a bit?
