I don't think it will get any traction, mostly a attention move on their part. I hope at least.

It's amazing how these ignorant people can make laws based completely on false information and downright lies and it is actually a threat to our freedoms.

Per Feinstein she looked at gun magazines just like in 94 for the most modern stuff and based the laws on that. This will start a civil war if it passes. Glad i sold all my guns before this happened.

Normally I'd not be worried except,
    with this president
    with these idiots in congress
with recent events regarding use of guns by freaking nut cases.
    with the media hype.
and a vocal bunch of ill informed sheeple that think that having no guns is a good idea.

If you don't have a sword, sell your cloak to get one. I'm taking that as gospel, and going to try and by back one of my recently sold weapons. alas, I think the AR went for way more than i can come up with rebuy. Shotgun Time!

Here is what I think about this: they NEED to have the consent of those governed to do this. They are powerless without our consent and there are alternatives. What if your buddy was a gun smith and made what ever you wanted? What if there was a whole underground network of people like this... not that there is or even that there are any plans in the works to make a network like this... I'm just saying, what if it did exist? When they outlawed alcohol people made it at home. When they outlawed pot people grew it at home. When they outlaw anything people switch to the common law ways of production. Why wait?

Most important thing is to make the proper information available. There is a counter to everything they do. Everything has an opposite. That is a basic rule of the universe. The trick is to figure out what the opposite is. The rest is easy. For every commercial they put up of guns being bad we put up ten of the opposite. If we don't have money for a TV commercial then we make stickers, web advertisements, fliers, etc. There are a ton of ways to do this.

Before I left Los Angeles I put 1000 stickers up at gas stations, parking lots, in stores, on windows, all over the Glendale Galleria, San Diego, and so on. I laid a sticker or paint in 18 states.

Sure. I reject being on a list for exercising my legal and protected right to bare arms. What's next? Will we let security workers strip search our children and grandparents at airports or random checkpoints? Oh wait...

You could point to Adolf Hitler's speech, the one where he said how great and civilized Germany was for it's national firearms registry. You know, the one they had right before the Holocaust...

Don't expect it to sway anyone's thinking though. People are going to believe what they want to believe, and if they're mind is made up, there is nothing anyone can say that is going to change it for them. Just like there's nothing anyone can say to me, that will make me believe more gun control is the answer to the problem. It is what it is, for whatever that's worth.

That said, I think anyone who asks you to defend your position on the subject, when their mind is made up, is just looking for a fight. Don't give them the satisfaction. Rather, just ask politely to be excused, and walk off mumbling something about another truckload of ammo. With any luck they'll leave you alone in the future.

Let's just put it all out there on display.
How much money you have in the cookie jar
How much silver/gold jewelry you have in the house
    how many computers you have
gun(s) are not just tools but they are also assets.

do you have a problem registering everything you own/possess?

I sure do. Invasion of privacy, is it going to come down to the stamp act, I'm gonna need permission from the state to own stuff? eff that.

and if some one thinks that is a good idea, eff them too. I'd disown a family member in a blink of an eye if they join in that thinking.

Bah humbug. Such a defeatist "learned helplessness" philosophy. Don't you realize how much POWER you have to infect your fellow humans with positive mind virii? A preacher defends his beliefs with no less passion than a soldiers defends his flag. A parent defends their children with the power of true love worth dieing for. You CAN change minds if you are in the right....if you're social engineer attacking from a position of true love and patriotism you have very few limits and the higher ground.

    Think aboot it.

kellory An unemployed Jester, is nobody's fool. Banned

There is a point beyond which, I will not be pushed. As a kid, it was there. As a young adult, it was there. As a man it is still there, the point where you stand fast and push back. To fight with fist and fury, till only one still stands. If that article is true, and if the ban passes, that point will have arrived. i posted this more than a year ago, on my other favorite site and it may clarify the intent of this statement. Hand-me-down guns : Guns and Ammo • Deer & Deer Hunting Forums
The only rifle I own, is a .22lr Glenfield model #60. semi-auto. It was a gift from my Father, and I will not be parted with it. I don't see any wiggle room in these two amendments, that I will allow.
    Article [I.]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
    Article [II.]

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second is there, in-case Government forgets about the first.
A ban that would take away my Father's rifle, would stand between my Constitution and my heritage, and that is a bond that will not be severed. A point I will not pass. My children are mostly grown, If I must be tried by twelve for my convictions, then so be it.

I like the optimism, but I still say you gotta know which battles can be won, and which ones can't. Defeatist? Maybe. Pessimistic? Probably - but also realistic, I believe. It could be that I'm just not very good at changing people's minds, but for the efforts of all the avid 2A supporters over the years, how many anti-gunners have been converted? I applaud you for anyone you can help to see the light, but I don't see many people asking for debate on the subject because they truly want to see another point of view. If someone just wants to argue, no good can come of it. Keeping a positive mind, for me, means knowing when to smile and walk away, and not allowing myself to be dragged down to that level. I don't always succeed in taking the high road, but I'm always happy with myself when I do.

I've brought a couple of folks closer to my way of thinking on guns and gun ownership over the years, but it took time. I don't believe that you can engage a perfect stranger who is strongly anti-gun, and say anything that is going to immediately change his way of thinking. It took years to sway the people whose opinions I have been able to positively affect on the subject, and they were friends - that's important. As friends, they valued my opinion to the point that while they did not immediately agree with me, I opened the door a crack; and over time, they began to see the light. One couple, who are close friends of ours, may not now be rabidly pro-gun, but they are no longer anti-gun, and have even gone shooting with us, and allowed us to teach their children to shoot. I consider that a victory. It took years though.

I don't think that any of us should be quiet about our opinions. We should proudly speak up for what we believe in, but I ain't holding my breath for any mass conversions of the anti-gun crowd. It's a cultural thing, and it takes time to change a culture.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I had that "discussion" with my mom. Let me just say that any "discussion" with that woman involves her talking non-stop, louder if needbe to drown me out.

She wanted to know why I was against registering our guns. I asked her how my guns being registered made her or anyone else safer. "Well, then the police will know where they are." And what, I asked, good will that do? I'm a law abiding citizen. My guns are in the gun safe or else on me. She said it would help the police is all. I asked if she thought they might need to know so they could borrow them in times of need. No, she fumed, but, well if a shooting went on then they could see who all owned guns and know who to look for. AHHH so it's guilty before being proven innocent? I have a gun therefore I must be a prime suspect? Well, no, but.... And what about the criminals, do you think they will march down to the local PD and say Here we are officer, here's all our guns, let's get 'em registered! Well no, but.... So how will it help make you safer?

Silence. Golden, blissful silence the likes of which I never hear during her phone calls.

Maybe, just maybe they want to know where all the law abiding gun owners are so that the next time something bad happens and they need to "DO SOMETHING", and of course they can't do anything truly effective like take criminals off the streets, they will at least be able to come to my house and the houses of other law abiding citizens who registered their guns, and steal all of our guns to wave about on the 6 o'clock news saying "SEE?? WE DID SOMETHING!"

She changed the subject. In mom's world, that means I won. For now. ;)

    UGRev Get on with it!

Anonymity is also a right not given to us by the constitution, but by God. Or if you're atheist, by the virtue of your existence. No one has the right to know if I have a knife or baseball bat or any other item of possession. It is unreasonable to expect permission to exercise a right granted by God (or existence) and therefore it is not only unreasonable, but illegal to require permit or registration in order to exercise that right.

I'm not for registration. It's stupid, in my opinion. And Canada just finished going through that whole dog and pony show only to abolish the registry because of how expensive and useless it was.

That said, you're not going to get very far with the argument God and or existence says that a proposed registry is invalid...

It's been a long time since the church ruled the state.
