I found in this article another example of how badly most of us would look to the anti-gun types in a media expose; when the cops lay out all of your evil weapons of carnage on a blanket. I'm not saying that the couple in the article are stellar individuals, but what they have in their apartment, that is not illegal to possess, is nobody's business. I've excerpted the bits that show what I'm talking about, but included the link. The underlining is mine.

NY Couple Not Terrorists, Say Cops, Just Rich Kids With Drug Habits - The Daily Beast

    Dec 31, 2012 9:26 PM EST
    EXCERPTS:
The very pregnant rich kid and her Harvard-educated boyfriend arrested on December 29 in New York’s Greenwich Village for possession of explosives and weapons do not appear to be terrorists after all, police say.
    .......

Cops discovered the weapons cache when they executed a search warrant at the couple’s W. 9th Street apartment at 6 a.m. Saturday, acting on a credit-card fraud charge against Gliedman. What they found initially suggested that Gliedman and Greene might be throwbacks to the rich-kid Weatherman radicals who had blown themselves up just two blocks uptown back in 1970.
    ........

The criminal complaint filed against Greene and Gliedman says that the cops discovered a plastic container in the living room holding seven grams of a white power that was identified as Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine, or HMTD, an easy-to-make explosive and a favorite of actual terrorists.

The complaint says that police also found the makings for more of the stuff, as well as a sawed-off 12-gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun, a Ruger 12-gauge shotgun, a dozen 12-gauge shotgun shells, 9 high-capacity rifle magazines, and 60 5.56-caliber tracer rounds. There was also a 37mm flare launcher, a replica of a M203 grenade launcher.

The complaint also lists a number of books and manuals said to be found in the apartment:
    - The Terrorist’s Encyclopedia V. 1.02
    - FM 5-25 Explosives and Demolitions
    - FM 5-31 Booby Traps
    - Improvised and Modified Firearms: Deadly Homemade Weapons
    - A Do-It-Yourself Submachine Gun
    - Street Sweeper: A Home Workshop Shotgun
    - Building the M11/9: A Guide to Construction and Coercion
    - FM 5-25 Explosives and Demolitions
    - FM 5-31 Booby Traps
These were seized, along with what police describe as various handwritten notebooks containing formulas.
    ......

The official did not offer an explanation as to why the couple had allegedly amassed all the requirements of a terror cell but apparently not the intent. The absence of drugs in the apartment has apparently not dissuaded them from taking the view that the two are junkies with advantages.
    .......

As for Gliedman, it may turn out that the raid on the apartment was the best thing that could have happened for her child, who can now expect to begin life in the New Year away from explosives and guns.

Apparently, the tooth fairy is going to protect her, when the next round of Government thugs, decides to come back for what ever they missed. (names of associates, addressbook, GPS records from the car navigator, bugs in the phones.....)

Sounds like a typical meth house to me the paranoia coupled with not sleeping give them time to make all sorts of stuff.

" The absence of drugs in the apartment" Meth make some very obvious tracks. Hunters sometimes find meth labs in deer blinds in the woods on public lands, where any kid could find it. sometimes bobby trapped, always dangerous. If it was meth, there would be no doubt.

Drug store hydrogen peroxide, citric acid and hexamine aka solid fuel tablet.

Plus the military manuals aka a waste of time.

Semtex is one of the terrorist's favorites.

Sorry but if they have it they use it. The most common way to use it is to smoke it. The average cook now is in a two liter pop bottle due to the restriction on cold med sales. I know a little about this I was on the team at my PD that took the labs apart. After a high year of 150 plus labs in a county of 70000 we disbanded because we had no lab call out's for several years. The current stuff on the west coast is from Mexico and pop bottle cooks.

Making HMTD Is trivial, in comparison to Semtex.... It was one of the FIRST HEs I made as a Middle Schooler, back in the day.(late 50s)..... Makes a great Initiator booster, should you need one...

Most of it, I'll grant you. Not all. They just had a bust around here (not too long ago) with a meth lab on wheels in a rental truck, as it kept driving around our local roads. Meth permeates the walls, and leave a health risk for anyone living there after. WE helped put down a drug house, half a block from my house (thankfully not meth) we photoed people coming and going, plates, descriptions, time tables. we called in the cops, in the first place. I even had plain cloths cops on my front porch as spotters, while I poured the coffee. Cops went in with flashbangs through most of the windows (the landlord was not pleased). These guys were good, fast and professional. No injuries, drugs were taken, and a forensics team followed. My point is, If there were drugs, traces of drugs, or drug making paraphernalia, It would have been noted, taken, and publicized LOUDLY. They need to show the public, they are doing their job.
Therefore, " The absence of drugs in the apartment", means there was no drug equipment either. Else, they would have been charged with operating a drug lab (even if that meant only one bottle found).
(My wife's whole family are cops. We try to stay informed.)

With all the literature, Army manuals, plans and formulas; I thought that would be obvious. ;)
As the fumes from stripping the pseudoephedrine / ephedrine are explosive and heavier than air; if it was a meth lab, the flashbangs would have made a bigger bang. LOL

True enough!;) but they had already made undercover buys, and sneek and peak. So they had a good idea of the inside. Of course, if they were wrong.....well, the flashbangs lead the charge......;)

To me, risking blowing up a meth lab in a residential neighborhood seems to be more of a problem than a solution.

As our military use of weapons can be limited when operating in populated areas; I believe the same rules should be applied to our police.

True enough. Meth was not in evidence, but there could have been something else, I will grant you. Just as a flash bang near reloading equipment could be rather interesting.
As for the drug house, I'm glad it's gone, and I'd quite happily trade a couple windows for the removal. And for those inside dealing drugs at all hours (documented, witnessed, photographed by me) i could care less. When you deal in death, sometimes it come back to you.

Very true, I have a friend who lived near a drug house. The kind of trash which starts traveling through the neighborhood is nasty and that is being polite.
I'd be apprehensive if the dogs chewed on them.. My apprehensions would be for the dog's health.
