I think there would be a massive revolt and I doubt that Illinois has enough prisons to house every gun owner who will be prosecuted for failing to turn in their firearms. The majority of the gun owners in America are not sheep.

That is why they have privatized the prison system FOR PROFIT. The more prisoners they obtain, the more profit they make.

This NOTHING more than Grandstanding... The Federal Court of Appeals, has given this YoYo 180 Days to write a CCW Statute, or they will call the now in force Statue that bans CCW UnConstitutional.... This is FACT, What makes this Yahoo think they wouldn't do the same thing with such a NEW Ban.... It would NEVER Pass Federal Constitutional Muster, let alone the BACKLASH from their own Gun owning Residents.... Pure wishful thinking... Or DELUSIONS......

Close. What I've heard is it IS un-Constitutional NOW, and they have been given 180 to write a statute that governs CCW's. If they fail to get the statute passed, it's open season on CCW's. Those hunters I know from there, believe it will be the most restrictive rules possible, with the most hoops to jump through, but they will have some form of CCW soon.
It sickens me greatly when politics tries to slide through on the blood of tragedy. To use a tide of fear, to make decisions, when people are grieving, when they are operating on emotion, not logic. They are not really thinking, they are reacting, and over reacting.

hmmm. I can't find a way to confirm the 'press release'

    Press release:
“The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton [above] will introduce a so called ‘assault weapons’ ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its ‘lame duck’ session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police . . .

“Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called ‘assault weapons’ but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.”
TTAG’s sources tell us there will be two bills: one for semi-automatic rifles, lever guns, shotguns and handguns with certain features (e.g., threaded barrels); and one for ammunition magazine capacity.
Mags would be limited to 10 rounds and owners of existing magazines holding more than 10 rounds would have to register them with the state police.
One [non-ISRA] gun guy on the front lines in the Land of Lincoln tells TTAG that the odds of the bills going through are 50 – 50. He advises gun owners both in and out of state to call Senate President Cullerton at 217 782 2000 and/or find another legislator to pester atilga.gov.
“If gun owners around the country melt the phone lines in the next three days we can push this thing back . . . that would be a tremendous morale boost ahead of federal legislation.”

The Appeals Court Order is "on Hold" (Stayed) for the 180 day period, and if the State can't write and pass a Statute into Law, the Stay will be lifted, and the Staute that stands NOW, will then become UnConstitutional and have NO FORCE IN LAW. Any NEW Statute would be immediately challenged in Federal District Court, and if it doesn't pass Constitutional Muster, it would be thrown Out as well, and any Federal District Judge that ruled in favor of the State would be immediately Appealed to this SAME Appeals Court, and those Guys would NOT be very sympathetic to any UnConstiutional Statue that is MORE RESTRICTIVE than the one they just RULED On. They will NOT be very happy, and could just rule in Summary Judgement against any Statute that doesn't pass FEDERAL Muster considering Heller, and the Chicago Case that has been adjudicated already by SCOTUS... The same is and will be true of ANY Feistein Bill that could come down the Pike.... It MUST PASS Federal Constitutional Muster.... And most Appeals will need to be in line with those two SCOTUS Rulings.....

states. Here...Not working out so well so far....Copied from a friend..

Notice the multi-colored map below. See that BLACK mark just right of center -- that's Illinois, the home of the Windy City: Chicago, currently Mayored by Rahm... "Rahmbo Dead Fish" Emanuel, Barack Hussein Obama's former White House Chief of Staff. Chicago is also Obama's hometown. Chicago has some of the most stringent and harsh anti-2nd amendment Gun Control Laws in the nation.

And it is no coincidence that Chicago is fast over-taking New York as the Murder Capital of the U.S., DESPITE playing host to so many "Gun Free Zones."

Chicago ended 2012 with 532 people murdered, according to statistics compiled by the Crime in Chicago website. The number of people murdered the year before was 441, meaning in the city of Chicago, murders have increased by 91 (21%) from 2011 to 2012.

The website also claims that, through December 25, 2012, 2,670 people were SHOT. That's also an increase of 453 shootings, an increase of 20% from the year before, when 2,217 people were shot in Chicago that year.

In all, it means that on average almost 1.5 people were murdered in Chicago each day last year, while on average 7.3 people were shot each day.

To add insult to injury at least 11 people were shot, 1 fatally, in the early hours of the New Year. Obama's and Emanuel's New Year 2013 is truly starting off with a BIG BANG!

But NO GUN FREE ZONES for Obama and Emanuel -- no sirree. They have armed guards surrounding them at all times and both send their children to schools guarded by well armed security, in Obama's case by Secret Service wo/men armed with semi-automatic pistols and/or automatic assault rifles. Same goes for David "BIG AMMO CLIP" Gregory who sends his kids to the same school as Obama's daughters.

Ill. Senate Committee Passes Gun Restrictions - Local News - Chicago, IL | NBC News

Both Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday night praised an Illinois Senate committee's approval of a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
In a party-line vote, the committee approved measures that would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles, but would allow current owners to keep them. High-capacity ammunition magazines would be restricted.

Quinn said he is very pleased the Public Health Committee took the step.
"There is no place in Illinois for weapons designed to rapidly fire at human targets at close range," he said.

In a statement, Emanuel said in order to protect children, families and communities, there is a need for "common-sense laws that provide the residents of our cities with the safety they deserve."
Gun rights groups, however, said the measures go too far and amount to an assault-weapons ban "on steroids."
Democrats are seeking restrictions in the wake of the school massacre in Connecticut last month and mass shootings in Wisconsin and Colorado last year. While the measures were approved by the committee, supporters will have a tougher sell in the full Senate, where downstate Democrats as well as Republicans are more pro-gun.
One measure would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them but would have to register them. The bill would allow semiautomatic weapons to be used at shooting ranges, but those facilities would be regulated.

National Rifle Association lobbyist Todd Vandermyde told lawmakers the bill would restrict about 75 percent of handguns and 50 percent of long guns in circulation today. He also said it would treat law-abiding gun owners like criminals, and is in conflict with Second Amendment rights upheld by the courts.
"I've never seen a piece of legislation that tramples on so many court decisions," Vandermyde said.
The bill's sponsor, Sen. Antonio "Tony" Munoz, disagreed.
"For everyone that says that we're taking away their rights, well then go to the range," the Chicago Democrat told members of the Senate Public Health Committee.
The second proposal would limit ammunition magazines and other "ammunition feeding devices" to 10 or fewer rounds. A similar measure received Senate approval in 2007, but the bill's sponsor, Sen. Dan Kotowski, downplayed the idea that a separate effort on shells stood a better chance of passage than the ban on weapons.
"The reason why I'm focusing on that is because (high) magazine capacity has led to the increased lethality and the dangers associated with automatic weapons," the Park Ridge Democrat said.
Gov. Pat Quinn, a Democrat, called for an assault-weapons ban in August after a mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater. But he took the approach -- highly unpopular with legislators -- of rewriting a fairly innocuous bill covering ammunition purchases, substituting language on semiautomatic weapons.
That failed when the General Assembly voted to override his amendatory veto, but mostly because lawmakers thought Quinn had overstepped his authority.

They are places in their cities where even the LEOs avoid going unless they are in groups. It seems they are more concerned with the criminal's well being than the law abiding people.

They don't care about your kids.Theirs will be protected by gun toting stassi. It is just about the power over the peasants. Elitist bastids. Rope and pitchforks if nothing else. The downstaters won't let it pass but it is an example of a city state trying to wield power over all in the kingdom.

NRA warns of more fights after Illinois win | WashingtonExaminer.com

President Obama's home state of Illinois won't be the first to approve post-Sandy Hook Elementary School gun control measures after all, thanks in part to the Second Amendment advocacy of the National Rifle Association.
The Illinois Senate pulled the plug on legislation to ban assault-style weapons and high-capacity ammo clips late Thursday, a stinging rebuke to Democrats and a wake-up call to the president and his supporters who think the Newtown, Conn. school child slayings will make it easy to pass gun control.
NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told Secrets Friday, "This was the first of many challenges gun owners and hunters will face this year. We will face many more and we need to keep our focus on those upcoming challenges."
Gun advocates predict that the Illinois Senate will offer watered down legislation next year, likely limiting the number and types of guns to be restricted. "This is in no way a victory and nobody is doing a victory dance," said a state gun advocate. "This is a minor win and we have to keep on."
Public polls, meanwhile, show little change in the nation's support for gun control measures.
Lawmakers in Springfield, Ill. who support the measures said they lacked the support to win, in part because some members were absent.
Several other states are considering gun control measures, propelled by the school shootings, as is Obama and congressional Democrats. But foes said that the Illinois vote was a sign that the shootings haven't radically changed the political landscape to win new restrictions on guns.
One of the proposals before the Illinois senate would have restricted the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic weapons, including handguns and rifles.
The NRA said that would have taken 50 percent of long guns off the market and lead to massive layoffs.
Gun makers are making the same case in Washington, claiming that thousands would lose their jobs in an assault weapon ban.
