Now that my house has finally gotten comfortable, it’s time to upgrade my inverter to run stuff like refrigerator, microwave, stereo system, computer, household appliances, air compressor etc. I want something with hardwire terminals. Over the years of researching it, I’ve always heard that I should get pure sine wave but I’ve heard form some that modified sine wave is good enough if the wattage is high enough.

My house: Home Off The Grid

So now I want to hear form some folks who have actually been living off grid for some years. How much wattage, pure or modified, what brands etc? Any suggestions?

JMD, you need a few more posts before access to all public member data is permitted. This is to ensure there's a real person out there, and not a bot looking for something to corrupt. We currently have it set to 5 posts. Once you get to that level, more things can be seen/accessed. As of this time, you show as only two posts.

Some people limit their profile views from casual viewing. BTPost may have his set this way.

Yes, he limits to 'Members Only', you may have still been waiting approval as a member?

He should be able to see it now. We don't have a 5 post minimum anymore: He's either a registered member or not.

    Ok, I read your profile.

As an old poot to an old fart, it sounds like you’ve been off grid long enough to have learned a few things the way I’ve learned most of everything I know………….by doing it wrong at least once. I have a PhD in screw up.

So what I’m looking for is stuff about inverters form folks who have messed with them long enough to have some experienced ideas about them………..as opposed to just trying to sell them.

I want hard wire terminals so I can hook it up directly to my house. I want to run stuff like what I put in my first post and I’ trying to decide on pure sine wave or modified. I also need some ideas abut how much wattage, brands, where to buy them etc.

As for my profile, it’s on my website.

    Thanks,

Our local stone cutter is a friend and he already cut my tombstone. It’s sitting up the hill behind my house. It says:

So maybe this is more to the point.
What kind of inverter do you have?

I run a Trace SW4024, a Trace SW4048. And Trace SB3624.... All purchased BEFORE the Trace Engineering Staff, ALL walked out the back door, down the street, and started OutBack Power Systems..... If I was in the market Today, it would be OutBack Power stuff, Hands Down....
