The site will be completely unavailable from around 0450 - 0800 EST. Give or take an hour - worst case. We are completing hardware and software upgrades during our normal maintenance window tonight/tomorrow. The site will be completely unavailable from around 03:00 EST to 05:00 EST. Give or take an hour. @Moderators
but but but what will we do--don't know nothing about birthing babies--lol. Appreciate all the work you guys do. Just don't be monkeying around too much--lol.
Then I guess I will get at least a couple of hours if sleep this weekend...finally. Seriously though, thanks for all the hard work and I know how much if a PITA a 3-5 am weekend maintenance window is.
The middle of the night outages are in an effort to minimize downtime for all US time zones. I also use them as justification to buy some extra beer
Thanks but this site is nothing without its members and the SM staff. I'm not just saying that either.
Understood. But the responses are much faster here, the site, clearly functions cleanly, and the staff seem to know what the heck they are talking about. Bugs are worked out quickly and with assistance from many directions. It is more cleanly and efficiently run than most i have seen. One complaint though....terms. There are many terms thrown about, that are cryptic. I often have to go off site and google to figure things out, then return to a discussion, 5 steps behind. Perhaps a cheat-sheet somewhere that would translate for those of us, who are new to prepping?
Good idea. We've been weakly attempting to create a 'Start Here First' or 'new to prepping' section for some time now. A Glossary of Terms would be very helpful - just need to figure out how to do it. It would help if you could create a starter list of some of these terms that have stumped you.
Well, the one I have figured out. AoO, Area of Operation. BOV bug out vehicle, BOL, Bug out location, TSHTF (you guys use these terms as easily as breathing, Molan Labe, There are many more. Most of you guys are military as well, I'm not. Alot of the military terms require time, and effort to figure out. Pick just about any thread and read it, from the perspective of what is actually says, without all the abbreviations, letter combinations, code words, and What the heck does THAT mean? You will see what I see.
lol, I see what you mean. I'm not military but I also use 24 hour time (both for web server stuff and for my job) so it's 21:07 PST currently. SM does need a commonly used acronyms thread. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ bob
Updates were aborted after unexpected results were encountered. We safely fell back to our normal configuration and will try again another day.
@kellory I didn't edit your post above. What do you see now when you hover over those words? hover over those acronyms
Any other acronyms you'd like expanded with a tooltip? AO, AoO, BOB, BOL, BOV, shtf, tshtf, TEOTWAWKI, OPSEC
@melbo, do you have a place where we can enter the acronym and it's tooltip or are you going to have to do it manually? SBS Short Barreled Shotgun SBR Short Barreled Rifle AOW Any Other Weapon NFA National Firearms Act FA Full Auto SA Semi Auto fall - melbo test
I enter them in once and then its automatic whenever the forum see's that word. Might be good to create a thread of acronyms we'd like added (and their definitions)
