The number of shots fired during the Jan. 20 gunfight involving Washington County law enforcement officers and an off-duty Hillsboro cop in Forest Grove is "closer to 100," police said Thursday.

"We won't have a final tally until we have the final report," said Capt. Mike Herb, a Forest Grove police spokesman. "It may be very challenging to come up with an absolute number."

Two search warrant returns filed Wednesday in Washington County Circuit Court outline evidence investigators gathered from Timothy Patrick Cannon's home following the shootout. The incident lasted an hour and 21 minutes from the time his wife, Lisa, called 9-1-1 reporting a domestic disturbance to her husband's arrest, Herb said. Authorities say the standoff spiraled into 10 Washington County law enforcement officers exchanging gunfire with Cannon.

Detectives obtained a warrant to search Cannon's two-story home, car and gather his DNA. Investigators received a second warrant for "all prescription and non-prescription medications, alcohol, alcohol containers, documents and or other evidence of alcohol consumption" inside Cannon's home.

Cannon had been drinking off and on throughout the week, and he was acting agitated the day of the shooting, according to records.

An evidence report shows at least 70 shell casings gathered from inside and around the home, but multiple "fired cartridge cases" are listed without identifying the exact number. Seven bullets were located, including one from the porch of a neighboring residence across the street. Police are still determining where all the rounds went.

Multiple spent casings were found in Cannon's backyard, along with a flashlight associated with Washington County Sheriff's Cpl. Mark Trost, who authorities say fired his weapon during the incident. A ballistic shield with a bullet hole was found against a neighbor's garage, and another shield was located between houses, records say.

Investigators gathered multiple fired and unfired cartridges throughout the home, including in the living room, kitchen, garage and office areas. Authorities found multiple firearms and gun magazines and gathered swabs of blood.

According to records, investigators also seized bottles of medications prescribed for Timothy Cannon, including drugs treating pain, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. The medications have side effects that can result in "altered mental status," when combined with alcohol, records say.
Authorities gathered an empty bottle of wine from the living room. From the kitchen floor and counter, investigators took "city of Hillsboro docs" along with "AA materials," records say.

The incident started at 8:34 p.m. when Lisa Cannon dialed 9-1-1 in front of her husband. At 8:42 p.m., four Forest Grove officers first entered the garage, then the home, where all lights were off. The officers had learned Timothy Cannon was an off-duty Hillsboro cop, who was armed and trying to break into a room in which his wife and daughter had locked themselves, Herb said.

As the incident continued, officers from agencies throughout the county were called to the scene, including members of the Tactical Negotiations Team. Once inside, officers started talking with Timothy Cannon. The 46-year-old told them he was armed with an AR-15, Herb said, and they would need to kill him.

Officers heard Timothy Cannon chamber ammunition, Herb said. He reportedly threatened to kill the officers. Their dialogue with him ended.

Timothy Cannon kept out of sight from officers. He "constantly" changed his upstairs position in a stairwell, blocking the only path leading both out of the home and toward his wife and daughter, Herb said.

Just before 9:03 p.m., a dispatcher noted that shots were fired. Timothy Cannon was firing his personal AR-15, Herb said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Timothy Cannon was upstairs as he fired through walls, trying to find the officers. Police fired handguns and AR-15 rifles through walls. Lisa Cannon and her daughter were not in the line of fire, Herb said.

Police haven't said whether Timothy Cannon or officers fired first. Herb was unsure whether police met Timothy Cannon face-to-face during the incident.

Timothy Cannon eventually surrendered unarmed. He and Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Micah Akin were treated at a hospital for minor injuries later that night.

Timothy Cannon, who resigned from the Hillsboro Police Department last week, remains in the Washington County Jail charged with 26 counts, including 11 counts of attempted aggravated murder. Police say they are still trying to find a motive for the crimes.

Trained professionals, from 4 different jurisdictions, fired close to 100 rounds, yet only 2 people had minor injuries?!

jmho .... alot of poorly trained military and police, SPRAY AND PRAY, as opposed to most civilians who tend to have a much higher hit percentage, calling their well aimed shots, or waiting until they see the whites of the eyes of their designated target. Please note; I did not say all. Statistics hold these truths to be self evident.
    .
as an aside, anyone notice where the police officers who are on edge and being hunted by one of their own, shot up a pickup truck bright bold blue in color injuring 3 innocents, after their intended target was described as driving a silver/gray model of the same truck? Can anyone say, Barney Fife scared to death and amped up and armed to the teeth?!!

Yep, I did my basic shooting training killing Water Mocassins in a gravel pit with a 22 rifle, no scope. You only got one shot then they'd all roll into the water.
