What a great toy! Lucky lady. She needs more snow so she can really work that thing.

The Carb was all messed up on the Gasoline Side of the Engine, and it is to COLD to try for a direct Diesel Start. My Bro. "The Engineer" comes up to visit this time each year, during Crab Season, and spent a couple of Days, rebuilding the 1941 Carb, on that WWII vintage Austin/Western Grader.... Starts up just fine, NOW...

Forget it a-hole's, Don't see a piece of equipment made in the 40's lasting that long in Ak.

Whatever, he also said it was a 1941 carb.

Sorry you think I am an a-hole for pointing out the obvious. Try not being so thin skinned. There was one hell of alot of construction and military preps for WWII going on up there before and during the war. Alot of stuff got left behind. Just reading history will tell you that. Also in 1941 military construction equipment was made a whole lot more stout than your average Bobcat or Kubota tractor

The engine WAS rebuilt, but it is still a 1941 vintage Austin/Western Grader, with an IH Hybrid Gas/Diesel 4 Cyl engine..... You start it on Gas, and after the CYLs get warm, you push the Switch-over Lever, and it runs on Diesel.... then you turn off the Gas, switch off the Ignition, and head out to do your biz..... The one in the Picture is Newer than this one.... but similar....

Our township had one of these they used for years. Recently upgraded to a newer cat. The operator still says the old Austin was more handy then the new bigger machine for certain tasks.
