For sale: DPMS LAR-308 with a 16" barrel. This rifle was not shot much, as it was a secondary rifle to my 24" DPMS. The rifle has Magpul furniture front and back, and includes 4 metal magazines, a Leupold 2-7x scope, and Magpul MBUIS. $2200.00 in a certified check, and I will have it shipped (at a local gun shop for sale presently) to you once the check clears. Sorry to be so untrustworthy, but that's the world we live in today. The first "I'll take it" gets it.
Thanks, CATO. There is some of my work in this one, but I'm not too dissappointed to put it up for sale. The rear MBUS does not touch the occular of the scope. It's close, mind you, but you can pass a business card between the two without touching. All the Magpul stuff is foilage green, the FDE is way too light to blend in around here. I really like Magpul's new fixed, full stock. It is very comfortable, and not too long for a 16 inch barrelled rifle; it is about 1/2 inch shorter than an A2 stock. I just put it on a few weeks ago, and before that it had an MOE collapsable stock on it. I swapped out the extension tube, buffer, and spring. I still have those parts, and if the prospective buyer would prefer, I can swap them back in without a problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the rifle with the collapsable stock. The fixed stock's storage compartment is very nice and considerably larger than an A2, and definetly easier to open. The slightly rounded profile of the butt of the stock fits my shoulder very well, especially in the prone position. As for the front MBUS, it lines up with the rear because I bought a generic aluminum picatinny rail and milled the bottom down until it was the correct height. Yes, it's attached to the MOE handguard, but the handguard is on tight, and it is only a backup to the Leupold. I didn't want to put it on the gas block for obvious reasons. The flash suppressor is a Troy Ind Claymore. I hardly shot this rifle with it on- I usually mounted my suppressor. That was, until I finally got my 24" rifle threaded for it. Since then, I hardly ever took it out of the safe. I would be willing to sell the rifle without all of the accessories for a lower price, since all of these things tend to make the price escalate when they are all added together. I'm not giving them away- those days are over for me. I would be willing to keep the upper and sell the lower separately for $1000.00 since I could still shoot the upper on my other rifle when I felt like it.
I was wondering where you got the stock. I don't like collapasibles, always opt for the standard A2. I like it. It may be quite a wait until they become available again. Nice rifle. I have one but with the 16" - can't think of the name, has the machined groove about 2/3 of the way up - AP barrel? It wasn't the first choice but it was the only one available at the time. Bought the completed upper and built the lower. Would have preferred the 20 inch mid weight barrel. Couldn't get too picky - availibility even then was running out 6 months. Still gets good groups with the right ammo. I 've used the Federal Match intended for the M1A with a 168 gr Sierra - 'bout 3/4 inch. It really likes that stuff.
Altoidfishfins- I think you are describing an M4 type barrel. I say type only because the real ones are 14" long and too short to use unless it is SBR'd. The band is cut into the barrel to attach a mount for an M203 grenade launcher. As for the stock, it is Magpul's fixed MOE rifle stock. They are actually pretty inexpensive and come in all their standard colors: FIXED & PRECISION ADJUSTABLE STOCKS – AR15/M16 Type Rifles, FN FAL, HK G3 - MOE® Rifle Stock The length is just a little shorter than an A2 stock by about 3/8-1/2". It's hard to quantify because the recoil pad is curved, whereas the A2's is flat. The storage compartment is much larger than the A2, and much easier to open.
That's it. It's the M4 style and the M203 is what the machined groove is for. Job is keeping thought processes tied up right now. A 14" barrel on this rifle, even if it were legal, I don't think would be practical. The velocity loss at 16" with this cartridge is about 2-300 hundred feet / second compared to a 20 or 24". Below 16" I imagine the loss would increase almost exponentially. It's bad enough in the 5.56 chambered M4 from what I understand. Of course he M4, from what I've read, is handy for clearing buildings so you're talking a range all of 30 feet at the outside. On an unrelated note, I read on the chat here that Magpul is thinking of leaving Colorado (and taking jobs with them) if the state legislature passes and the Gov signs pending restrictive legislation. Perhaps they deserve our support. They certainly make reliable magazines.
