Started a few months back as a way to stay in shape and be able to get around should gas go belly up. For the Gold Bugs call it less than a 1oz Gold Round and a lot easier to ride than a Gold Round.
When I was a kid back in the early 70s, a friends father worked for a company that was trying to market them as a replacement for a second car. They called them a PPV (people powered vehicle). Two people side by side both peddling. I guess they were an idea before its time. I think one with an electric motor to help on the hills when loaded with gear would be a viable vehicle replacement.
I'm more into the one person trike, with 8 speeds and able to climb most hills in my area. I can get to town in an hour.
Tribey electric trike can be ridden standing or recumbent Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec folding electric trike goes up to 28 mph (45 km/h) Evolve recumbent trike folds up in seconds, fits in trunk of smart car And if you like to make an entrance.... Powered parachuting on a recumbent bike
Should be possible to add a hub motor to the rear wheel and a battery pack right behind the seat. YMMV
Maybe later, our first concern is getting in better shape and having an item that is easy on the Human Frame and Joints. And we sure have meet more neighbors than ever before. most who mention they have Bikes setting up, not used for a long time.
Gotta make it real! Like making that long walk back to the room after a major medical event! Well except for one time when I had to call for a nurse and a wheel chair.
Thank you for your service. And it is real, just think of it as insurance. You will push your self a little harder, because of the ace up your sleeve. I try to always have at least two ways to do something. It's a redundant recumbent.
I'm thinking electric backup motor and battery for something like this would work well as a viable alternative in case gas starts running short. It is small enough that you could charge via solar, and still be usable when the battery runs down. The range should be good enough that you could do an average commute, and with baskets, it could haul a reasonable amount of cargo. Definitely something to think about. One more thing for my list.
We're using US ARMY MOLLE II ACU SUSTAINMENT POUCHs and Canteen Carrier for tool pouches. A lot cheaper than Panniers and double purposed as shoulder pouch. First extra was a luggage rack, then a set of fenders. Now a neck rest. I been watching the telly in the trike and dozed off some. Trikes rule, the only way to rest and not have to find a place to lay down in the mud. Pictures soon.
I was thinking more like retrofitting a couple of these. Replace the crank with a small electric motor....
