The chances of this passing here are slim...and the chances of it passing and not precipitating a rebellion in the southern and eastern sections of the state are non-existent.

Yes, absolutely, a Sheriff can deputize Anyone He chooses, WITHIN the Statutes, of the State, and County, that he is elected to. There are some States that limit his authority, in this area. LIke a Statute that REQUIRES a Deputy to posses some Credential, (Schooling or Academy Graduation) before being eligible for the position. But baring such a Statute, the a Sheriff can Deputize a Posse, to back him up, in ANY of his Official Duties, and many of these type Limiting Statutes have provisions, for emergency situations, where a Posse is needed for a limited length of time. In some Jurisdictions, even a Chief Deputy has the ability to form a Posse... Many Sheriffs have standing "Special Deputies" and "Reserve Deputies" in their Organizations, that when called upon, can function, in Limited Capacities, and under Orders and control, of the Sheriff.

Your right Pax. If they want to start some shit, pass it and see what happens.

I was a felon when I lived in Commiefornia because I DID NOT register my evil black guns in 1989 when the AWB passed. I became a law abiding citizen in 2000 when I moved to Oregon. I DID NOT register anything back then and it's not going to happen now.

Oregon has long been abusing its people. The police have been militarized and taught that the Constitution is a training manual for terrorists. They allow federal training exercises on the public get out of hand and American's come back with broken bones and teeth knocked in. There are videos of raids on towns done without locals knowledge where they round people up, terrorize them, and then let them go the next day. If you search for it you can find video of all this going on. I remember seeing the first one back in the 90s.

    To Whom it may concern,

My name is ___________. I am a citizen of the State of Oregon and of the United States of America, and I am writing concerning HB 3200. I have read the bill in it's proposed entirety and have taken some time to think through not just the proposed legislation, but the intent behind it.
I agree that we as a society need to do all that we can to prevent violent crimes. We need to seek an end to not just gun violence, but to all violent crimes. We cannot however do this by taking away the constitutionally protected rights of law-abiding citizens. We should instead be looking for and preventing the root causes of violent behavior. We should be closing the revolving-doors of our prison system, and enforcing the laws that we currently have instead of creating more laws that our under-funded police departments cannot hope to enforce.
As a citizen, I ask you to not support HB 3200. I remind you that you are a representative of the people and are sworn to uphold the Constitution . In the future, I will not vote any politician who is willing to participate in an attack on the freedoms and liberties of law-abiding citizens guaranteed by the Constitution. I will encourage my family, my friends, my co-workers, and all those whom I interact with to do the same.
    Please stop HB 3200.

I'm really cynical about this whole thing and I believe that every step in this intentional, whether HB3200 stands a chance or not. I honestly think it was a test case or simply ground work for something that may be more "palatable" to come. It should be a warning to everyone to keep a watchful eye on what some of these politicians are doing.

You are very correct Quigley, keep a very close eye on them. Things tend to get snuck in to other issues. But I am surprised by the article you linked. Is Oregon really pro- 2nd Amendment? I never would have guessed.

Oregon is very 2nd A... Everywhere outside the I-5 corridor, south of Salem... It should fail in the State Senate, same as Washington's did... But who knows till it does...

That is the beauty of a Constitutional Republic... Only ONE House, is population Elected, the other is done by Area...
