Go to the reply box (or start a new thread). Below that, you'll see "upload a file" The rest is pretty clear, I think. Let us know if that fails you.

Hunter is such a beautiful guy and you can see the intelligence in his eyes. I doubt if anything escapes his notice. You're a lucky man Quig

I love dogs and I love my dogs. We have five right now: 2 poodles, two chihuahuas, and a Great Pyrennes. However, I am not sure that a dog would be an asset after The Event. I am afraid for the lack of food that I'd be able to provide, afraid of the noise they make when they percieve a threat, and of their lack of ability to maintain a stealth position because of lack of discipline.

I understand the concept of a guard dog because we allow our GP to live with the livestock and he does a great job. However, I am not sold on the idea of a guard animal of any kind if/when we decide to bug-out to our remote location. I'm interested in any comments that anyone may have. I'm willing to be convinced, but...

I think that is one of the great things about a Dobie - they use stealth. I know they are not the only ones like this, just the breed with which I am most familiar. I've spent a great deal of time in their training and they respond to hand commands as easily and verbal commands, and then use their innate intelligence to guide their actions. I have seen them use deep, warning growls or barks when the occasion warranted it and I have seen them prowl silently in search of danger. If I felt some danger approaching outside the house, I would send Ninja out to "get 'em" and keep Taj by my side. When I felt any danger, I never send both of them out together. One outside to deal with the problem and one by my side to protect me.

Apollo broke a man's hand once when this virtual stranger reached out to put his hands on me. I did have to deal with the police after the guy's trip to the hospital but that was okay. Before Apollo bit the guy, we placed himself between the man and I, sat silently at my feet and stared at the guy who failed to recognize that he had nothing to fear unless he crossed the line.

A good dog is peace of mind. Its knowing they "have your back" before you even realize you need it.

    I don't think I could ever love a person who couldn't love a dog.

Keep in mind, a well trained good dog can be owned by a person who is evil. In that person's hands that dog becomes evil to good people. In a post SHTF situation such dogs will have to be neutralized effectively even if it means killing the dog. Time and individual situations will dictate how you have to proceed. Naturally most of us would want to avoid killing the dog(s) if at all possible without putting tribe members in serious harms way.

Absolutely true. A dog is trained as an extension of their master and must be treated as such.

My love for a person is not based solely on their love of a dog, just that if a person did not have the capacity to love a dog, there is no chance they will share my life. And, I do have a few other requirements

You should read "One Second After."

A dog can be protection or food.

Always had German Shepherds, with the last being put down due to age/health a couple years ago. Around Thanksgiving we adopted Beau, a stocky 80 lb. eighteen month old pup who does a fine job letting passers-by know the house down the road is probably a better option. 200px-Schools-out-our-gang-1930.

My rottie will let you into the yard just far enough that when she comes for you, you won't make it to the fence in time. She let's us know when someone is in the drive. And she has recently learned how to let herself out if it's only the storm door.

Don't even look at the wife and/or kids. Secret word and someone is a doggy chew toy.

I love my Rottie, Homeland security when I'm off to work or such.

Our younger Rottie has recently decided that a fun game is to find the biggest rock he can fit in his jaws and bring it to me to throw for him. At least they last a lot longer than the balls used to...but it's killing my shoulder.

I love my Weimeraner, and she's my baby, fierce bark, and will get upset with a fly farting across the road. she is very protective of me and especially my mom. Mom had some people try to come in the door, when she was wheelchair bound after leg surgery in 2011. Mom told them you open the door, Im turning her loose. they left very quickly. Now mom has a nice backup besides Grayce.
