Nope just beginning to bark, he is actually one of the friendliest dogs towards people and other dogs (in my presence) I have owned.

    Just showing my age . . . .

I always had a thing for a 328GT . . . . Never could fit in one though (and I was the same build as Tom Selleck).

I have read it. Except for the brief note near the beginning, I was thinking of this thread, as I read, and made the note to myself about the absense of pets within the story line. I enjoyed the book and am engrossed in Lights Out now, looking forward to learning more as I finish it.

    Thanks for the advice.

Are we talking about the same One Second After...? By Forstchen?

The 2 dogs that are present pretty much from the beginning...one is shot by intruders. Not sure if it was the same one whose body went to a protein deficient neighbor or if that was the other.

It's been quite a while since I read it, but the dogs ("the idiots") are certainly memorable.

Here's mine. She looks sweet enough, and is unless you mess with her truck, her house, or HER owner.

She is extremely possessive, and loyal to a fault. My wife has another heeler that displays the exact same traits, except it's the wife and daughter's dog.

Pretty dog- I had a Blue Healer/Australian years ago- best dog I ever had!! And like you said extremely possessive and loyal!! He hated when we rode the dirt bikes and would nip our heel's, think he was mad that he could not keep up.

Mine hates motorcycles as well. One hilarious thing she does, If I pass a Pilgrim's Pride truck on the highway, she will go absolutely ballistic over the large picture of Bo Pilgrim on the back of the trailer. I'm mean she acts like she would jump out and attack him. I laugh my butt off.

I will never own another breed.

Mine would not ride in a vehicle of any kind- hated them- a little bit of a car chaser I might add. We could not break him of it and at a point was his downfall.
Dog would follow me all over the county on foot, never skipped a beat and always on point looking for.... deer. Love to chase them to...

That is a little odd. They are known to be excellent truck dogs. Mine will bite my feet from the second I grab my keys until I get to the front door. Many times I've had to chase her out of a vehicle to go to work.

They are a quirky breed for sure. But I've never seen a dumb heeler/ACD. Mine has been able to read my mind/body language/emotions since she was about 4yrs old. She's 13 now (11 in the pic)

Best damn guard dog I've ever seen? A GOOSE.

If you've ever had one come after you, you know exactly what I mean! And they'll usually start alerting to a stranger in the yard just as fast, if not faster, than most dogs.

My next dog is going to be a Doberman, after my poodle leaves me...don't laugh, poodles are some of the smartest dogs I've ever experienced. My blue healer was smart and I loved 'em all, but I'm going to try a Doberman next.

Guinea hens are real noisy when people approach. They make quite a racket when someone enters the yard.

Rotties are great, but from experience, I would only get one from a reputable breeder, that can trace the blood line back to it's German ancestors (all rotts descend from German stock). A good resource would be a police department employing rotts on their force. Take a look at the Caucasian Ovcharka, now thats a gaurd dog, a little scary though.
