I know, no one should be forced but it is likly that this method still exist in places I no longer am allowed to go.

SO, here is a tip from the CMP. odcmp.com

    FAQ.

I would like to designate the CMP as the recipient of my United Way contribution, but don't see you listed. How do we designate the CMP for the donation?

In step 3 of the donation form, in the place for Agency name - write "Civilian Marksmanship Program." The address is 1401 Commerce Blvd., Anniston AL 36207.

Maybe we should make the monket a 501c3 organization so we can add it to the list.

W e were force to give to the CFC when i was in the military... we all gave to the Pearl S. Buck home for unwed mothers.... really upset the wing kings wife who wanted all money to be donated to her pet benefits....

I dislike UW because it is pretty obvious they have to skim (gotta pay the staffers and print all the rubbishy flyers, pins, awards, letters, and posters) something out of the pond before passing anything along (distributing according to some unfathomable formula.) Go direct, or keep it in your pocket. That approach did not win me points in the corporate world that was always trying to get 100% participation for some unclear reason. None of the outfits that issued my paychecks ever got to 100%, I assured that would not happen.

You get no assurance or feedback that your contribution went where you specified in spite of the statements they make. Another turnoff from UW to me.

No doubt "None of the outfits that issued my paychecks ever got to 100%, I assured that would not happen." I put my money where my heart is and where my fellow servicemen will benefit.

Problem, I once saw my name on a cash contribution of $1. Yes I raised hell and made sure the public displayed little red scale did not reach 100%.

a former employer did, they made it clear that you should consider the 'standard' donation when you discuss salary because you WILL donate it.
I always picked the Boy Scouts, these days I'd pick NRA.
If you want to work there you play by their rules. If you don't like their rules, don't work there (I have since moved)

We are fortunate at my organization. The Management did not like that a lot of money that went to the United Way was wasted on administration fees. What they did was create their own foundation. Whatever the employees put in the company would match. It is administrated by the employees through a council which has elections every 2 years. Being on the council does not pay. Some of the money is designated to help out employees while the other is for scholarships and other charities in the surrounding communities that we work in. Typically most employees give 250+ a year to the foundation and in the 7 years I have been we have raised over 9 million that has stayed in the local community without and administration fees. I think if a lot more companies went to this type of corporate giving , these in need would benefit more.

The one time I gave to the CFC while in the USAF, my donation was to the the Afgan Freedom fighters found. The next time I asked for prof that my donation went to them and until they proved it I would never donate again. I was not nice person about it.

I am a State Employee in Florida - For the past three years I have "Xed" through the form and refused to donate - I choose my charities carefully and locally. They cut our pay and our retirement contribution by the employer - they get enough from me. Been boycotting the office Christmas Luncheon for a couple years too. Bah Humbug. I'll keep what money I can till I retire. I'll last as long as the Mainframe does - all the internal financial management, personnel and payroll is processed on it, as well as the School Transcript system (a HUGE application in itself!). None of the new people will touch the Mainframe stuff with a ten foot pole - too 'old school', so we few dinosaurs are needed. But that don't mean I'll play their donations game. Actually the whole donations game was very low-key this past season - the economy has brought everyone down. They didn't even bother putting the amount-donated chart in the lobby. Too depressing compared to prior years, I guess.

I'd rather donate to the local food pantry than give to any of the phoney-baloney .org's.
this is better for two reasons; I know where my money is going and it stays local.

When I worked for the Navy, in Guam, we had a "ring knocker" (US Naval Academy graduate) Lieutenant Commander, who felt as though "100% exposure" to the CFC begging meant "100% participation". Since we were civilians, he couldn't order us to donate.....so, instead, told us that those that didn't, he would personally donate a dollar in our names!

We told him that if he did, we'd contact the union, and sic them on him!! He quickly backed down from that foolishness!! ;)

There are "ring knockers" and there are officers. "Your" LCDR made rank by standing on the shoulders of his subordinates and neatly nestling his nose under the coat tails of his seniors.
