Okay so I need a little Monkey Tree guidance. I have a gas dryer that has kicked the bucket and cost to much to repair vs buying a new one. I thought about taking the dryer and making a faraday cage out of the metal, either cutting and welding something or whatever to make it proper. Someone killed that idea....K. I am looking for advice on what I can use the dryer for in regards to a project prepping style... Throw me some ideas on what I can do please... Maybe multiple project since I have some various components such as the exterior, drum, gas lines and so on. I thought about an improvised cooker, maybe a smoker or several other potential ideas. But I thought this would be a good idea for some outside expertise in backyard engineering. Bring it.... and I will make it.
An outdoor smoker or cooker they use them on the beach in Mexico. As for the faraday cage why not its metal with a ceramic paint?
When you take the drum out, you have a large metal cylinder that can become a clothes sorter or a toy bin in your basement. It could hold yard tools like rakes and brooms or sports equipment like baseball bats that sit loose in the garage. Perfect for an intruder... Make a firepit by surrounding the drum with a landscape stone base wall and adding firewood for a tall marshmallow and hot dog roasting fire. Air will flow in through the holes, allowing the fire to keep going as you warm yourselves on a cool evening. Somewhere to hide the evidence of the afformention unwanted guest. Really, the sky is the limit when it comes to human ingenuity. But for your money you might be able to scrap it for more than the trouble is worth.
Not concerned about the money I might get for scrapping the dryer. More so the fun of a project that at some point could be useful in a survival situation. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Or you could do to your dryer what Pittsburgh Penguin Sidney Crosby did to his mom's... Practice makes perfect!
If I had the land I would make some improvised..... and blow the thing up... but no such luck right now.
When I was a kid I found dryers to be a great toy(discovered during a hide and seek game with my sister). Those protusions that fluff the clothes while it's drying them, I found that you can push on them and it's kinda like your own little hamster wheel. Of course I think we're all too big for dryers now, but you could use it as a planter, just dig a hole big enough to shove it in, and you don't have worry about burrowers ruining whatever you plant in it.
I think I will use the drum for a fire pit as you suggested- thank you!! Still looking for other ideas on the exterior metal and what to do with the gas components of the dryer.....
Post SHTF you could reinforce the back side with thick steel plating and use as a modified fighting position....in conjunction with a hasty foxhole or as a stand alone fall back position.... nobody would ever expect that an appliance could be used as a defensive position for a smaller framed person.... just a thought.
