Beaver Lick! The friendly town!

I was wandering through the webosphere....and found the following church sign.....



at first I thought it a hoax, but there actually is a place called Beaver Lick in KY, USA.....

Evidently they have a pizza parlour, as well as churches.....



It may explain why every pizza tastes of anchovy ; )

continuing on with the theme....

 

It's mainly outsiders that see the humor in oddly named towns or businesses. When I lived in England, there was a hairdresser's shop across the street from a popular pub that we frequented. The shop owner had his name blazoned across the front of his shop in two foot high letters - "PETER GOTTHARD." We Americans would always erupt in peals of laughter when we emerged from the pub, looking at "PETER GOTTHARD." The Brits would shake their heads and mutter that "Americans are so odd."

We have a Lizard Lick and a Tick Bite not to far from me here in rural NC.

 

In Klamath Falls, OR there is an intersection of 2 streets, Hope and Climax. It is a L shaped road where one ends and the other starts.

 

In southeastern Michigan on I-75, exit 69 is for Big Beaver Road.

Some people must have a wicked sense of humour when they name towns, or that they can't see the unintended consequences of applying the name chosen.

That is hilarious... how do they not get that?

Here in Missouri, we have towns named Knob Lick and Conception Junction. I've driven past Knob Lick a few times so I know it's there, but I still laugh every time...

 

There is a tiny town in southern Ohio named Knocemstiff.

 

And the Grand Teton's in English mean's ???
