New Colorado gun law bans all-online firearm training | Fox News

I think that there is nothing wrong with requiring a person to personally attend a firearms course as a condition of obtaining a concealed-carry permit . Not sure how you would get anything beneficial out of an online course, other than the basic information. Ultimately you have to know how to properly handle a firearm safely and learn the laws of your jurisdiction to maintain that permit!!
    What say you?

I do be sayin.....I don't mind if someone takes an online course and I agree that before they receive their concealed permit they need to show in person safe handling and familiarization with what they are going to carry.

I've seen to many people that barely know how to operate their own firearms and their safety practices are just as bad. Those people should not be allowed to carry in public for everyone's safety.

A blended program with on-line education to study up at the individuals pace and hands on certification for final qualification would work.

I disagree with any government determination of who is "entitled" to be armed.

Plenty of folks out there that make me uncomfortable if they are armed...but my "right to be comfortable" doesn't trump their right to K&BA...

Agreed 100%, but unfortunately the people of this country let them make up the rules.

Agreed again. I'm not saying that anyone should not have the right to carry, just that the instructor needs to spend extra time with them to address the safety issues if needed before they carry in public. Nothing to do with .goob approving anything, just would be nice to have somewhat safe and competent people carrying.

By the way...I believe anyone who carries should be trained...for their own good, I just disagree with the whole idea of government issued permits to carry (concealed or otherwise).

But then I disagree with background checks and a person "losing the right" to carry...unless they are locked up or otherwise protected 24/7.

I agree that we should not be restricted under conceal carry or otherwise but it is the law for most jurisdiction's. If we have to play by the rules, there are many that could benefit from the hands on training/certification. Once SHTF there will be many stupid people carrying that will shoot themselves... there dumb luck I suppose.

Here in Texas, you were required to take an 8 hour course, that included an hour's worth of time on the range. Range time was simply to prove you could safely handle your firearm, and hit a target (at various distances away). Minimum score was 150 to pass (maximum possible was 250, and I personally scored a 245).

They recently lowered the class to 4 hours, plus range time. Renewals don't have to do range time, just the class (and many instructors will just let you take the test, if you want to skip the class, on renewals). Renewals to be done within 6 months of your license expiration date. The instructors like it, because they're getting the same amount of money, and only spending half as much time earning it! ;)

Im not in favor of Government having any say except in cases of violent felons. WE DO NOT WANT REPEAT VIOLENT OFFENDERS carrying guns legally. However we have gone over the line on who can and who can not own a firearm. My son was 19 and had a 15 year old girl friend. He got tagged with 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct and now can not own a gun. Ridiculous !! Two kids think they are in love, they have sex and he gets his 2nd amendment rights taken away. I dont want men or women convicted of violent crimes like assault with intent to do bodily harm or armed robbery ever again owning guns legally . I believe once you cross a certain line you no longer deserve your constitutional right to own a gun. Law abiding citizens should have ZERO RESTRICTIONS PERIOD! I should be able to buy tomorrow any full automatic rifle, hand gun or shotgun if I can afford it. I favor simple background checks to keep convicted violent offenders from purchasing. The argument that if we let them out of prison we should restore all rights is not feasible. Some guys come out of prison harder than they were when they went in. My beef has always been the infringements on law abiding citizens and soft crime. Some felony convictions just don't warrant the loss of 2nd amendment rights. Some soft felonies should be reduced to misdemeanor levels to fix this. My 2 cents. KF

As long as the same government that denies "criminals" the right to self defense also determines what qualifies as a "criminal", there is no right to keep and bear arms...only a government-granted "privilege".

Go along with the prohibition on "criminals" because it makes you uncomfortable to "allow" them to carry and you really have no basis for complaint when the government prohibits you carrying weapons that make the anti-gun folks uncomfortable.
