Okay. So this is the knife poll for the suggested knifes I had gotten from replies on my previous post here. If you suggested multiple, I picked the one that was most affordable, efficient and powerful. So vote away!
There are many here that would select machete. Our resident blacksmith @Bear has made some great machetes although I think he only has them posted for sale in the Team Clubhouse (Site Supporters). Maybe someone will post a picture of one.
Okay. I just had quite a bit of trouble. So many kinds, one person! It will be nice to have something new to chop with, my Coghlans camp axe isn't doing it. I'm going to re-sharpen it eventually.
Hex, the choices have different missions, which explains why there's little guidance for where you should "invest." Eventually, you're apt to have one or more for each mission, so just get one, any one, and go on from there.
@Hex: Here they are, serious working tools, not for display on the mantle. I have one, simply the berries. @Bear: Just had to get your work out of the dark hole of the clubhouse, and maybe get another supporter on board to see the rest of your works. Possible customer if you still have some ready to go.
Thanks Ghrit, Only two Model 1 Night Monkeys left... Yeah... my preference for a "one tool option" is a machete... lot's of great choices out there as far as edged tools... just depends on what you are going to want to do... :0) Price points and quality are all over the place... but you can definitely find a reasonable option even within your first budget range... Being a cheap sob I, favor the yard sale machete/ hatchet, you can find them for the cheap and tune em up. got a heavy machete last month for 3$ wood handle that I refinished and wrapped 3 foot blade says Austria heavy enough to split timber with a log whacker. The woodsman pal I've been working on will be my go to once finished though, only place I've seen them has been in the Backwoodsmen mag though. good luck!
You're a smart Monkey!... actually a lot of the older machetes are of much better quality with better steel and distal tapers... I re-did one for an Uncle by Foster Bros... who went out of business in the 50's... a bit of rust that cleaned off easily but what great steel and talk about built like a tank... handles seem to wear over that many years but yeah... look out for the older ones... they are great and even better than the new ones when they are restored... and they are pretty easy and fun to restore!
