My Volquartsen is back from the shop 10/22

Years ago, I ordered a 10/22 barreled action from the Volquartsen Custom Shop (might be the superlite model?) and had always wanted to drop it into a McMillan Brothers thumbhole stock. While talking to Scott Volquartsen, I learned that they could also bake a matte black finish over the stainless. Turn around time was about a week and a half.

The barrel is the THM Tension barrel wrapped in a carbon fiber sleeve.
I had initially tossed a spare Trijicon ACOG TA01 on it while trying to figure out which optics I wanted to run but the ACOG seems to work quite well and 4x is really all I need for power.
A Harris bipod, Tac-65 can and Boonie Packer Strap sling round this out for a really fun shooter.

4 25 round Ruger mags in route from midway along with 2 spare Volquartsen Edge extractors and 6 10 round factory mags.

It's pretty sexy in a classy sort of way

Not til I wear out the barrel or strike the suppressor.

With muzzle blast suppressed and with different loads tested, it's amazing how you can hear the action function and a moment later hear the bullet strike.

Interesting. With all that precision, some may think you could use some proper glass. I kinda like the looks of it with the ACOG anyway. Beautiful looking setup.

 

I had a couple of thoughts on glass which included a TR23 AccuPoint - Trijicon, Inc. but am not sure I need 10 or 20 power for a 100-125 yard ballistic path. I have a Leopold Vari X III that I could test out but I'm a big fan of non-battery, reticle illumination. I can't justify spending $1K on the trij at this point. The ACOG @ 4x is a tack driver at 50 - 100 yards.

I've since removed the ACOG and am in the process of mounting a Leupold Vari-X III on it.
Wanted to go with a Trijicon Accupoint but I've decided to draw a line of how much $$ I sink into a 10/22

 

I suspect that you hit that line a while back......
I checked out the Volquartsen web site a while back..... lot's of things to drool over..... from decent prices to OMG

 

lol, yeah. The McMillan Bros stock was $550ish...

 

Nah, was a decade long project. Cost around $1 / day during that period.

 

Forward planning and savings daily lead to completion of a project.. Sometimes hard work is not enough but requires perseverance in savings to bring the plan to fruition!!
