Bait mine with peanut butter... They still get away with the bait.. Once in a wile they get away with the whole trap... Thats tough!
I used to use peanut butter but got much better results with cake icing that comes in the little tubs, they like the sweet. I tape the trap onto a coated paper or foam plate. Then when they die the bodily fluids are on the plate and don't leak onto the floor or shelf creating persisting smells and stains. Also keeps them from running away with the trap. Getting cold here and the fall ingress has begun. Caught 7 last week, still more to get. AT
Peanut butter is preferred here. So easy to get them with it, you can have fun with teeter-totter arrangements over old paint cans about half full of water. I was bored one day about two years ago, built a ramp up to the laundry tub and spotted it with pb to the top and a tipping stick that dropped them into the tub. Tub is slick sided, they can't climb if they can't get a grip, and it's too deep for a jump. (The tub has a grinder pump to lift the waste to the house drain, use your imagination for that --. Generally, I feed the crows with carcasses.) All that plus the feral cats, and I had none last year or so far this year.
Have no cats, Feral or other wise.. Cayotes eat them.. Plastic office trash cans catch a few as well.. Always a challenge to keep them cleared out. Have to have a steady supply of bleach for cleaning up after them..
I use peanut butter on my traps too but I put mine in a paper sandwich bag. My wife doesn't like seeing my success being displayed in the open.
I hired, house and feed some mouse hunters.. they like to work at night and sleep all day. They are quite effective and only demand tuna, kibble and a bit of cuddle time for payment to guard my domain. Well worth the price Though I had a mole in the yard and they failed to do much about it....
Had some of those lingering about the home stead.. Would find an occasional rabbit or bird on the front step.. However when it was discovered that urine had found its way onto a couple fire arms.. They where relocated to the wifes residence's.. Trappes do not piss in the house..
It was, darn it... I had to fight off VERY strong urges.. Was a very taxing effort .. Now, I will no longer allow the fur balls in the door.. Feel quite calm...
Now Angel here, would never befoul your firearms, but the Catnip better be on time, and no arguments. Edit: I have tried to load this pic several different ways. oh well. (kitten with rifle as sniper)
