Thought I would share some blades I'm working on...
Patterned after the old mountain men / butcher blades...

    MM1.JPG

Basic high carbon blades... field grade with black and brown canvas micarta... West Systems Flexcoat epoxy, 5/16 brass corby bolts and thick 1/4 brass lanyard tubing...
Thinking of copper riveted leather sheaths for these...
Not as "dressed up" as the Supporters stuff.... but same blades and construction... with and without the tungsten carbide edge treatment :0)

    Waddya think?

Bear, I think that they are utilitarian pieces of art that can easily save a Monkeys life one day. Beautiful, quality work, as usual!

    Looks great.

And to think, all I did yesterday was Bush Hog 11 acres of rutted washboard hill side.. Feeling old today every bone aches from the rough ride.

Still, it was really nice yesterday. Cool today and more rain expected tomorrow.

Lots to do before the winter sets in.

    Thanks @Sapper John ,
They were meant to be "utilitarian" more than "art".... simple proven design... extra width means its easier to split with and definitely will take a great many sharpenings for those who like to sharpen their blades alot... I wasn't too sure about the short version when I conceived it... but I like it now that the handles are on :0)
    Thanks again,
    Bear

Too kind... but thanks... meant to be simple... square-ish handles that you can shape if you want with a mill or bastard file... but perfect for bare or gloved hands...

Some pics of handles at 600 grit to give an idea of the actually color of the canvas micarta and black paper micarta... :0)

Busy couple days... will get more done later... MM4.JPG MM5.JPG

All I did was a bit of brush removal and landscaping, good for about a month.

Bear, what you do last for generations.

Thanks for the kind words @HK_User ... I hope they last that long... but if they work for the current generation... that's good enough for me :0) Bear

Thanks for the kind comment @Witch Doctor 01

I'm thinking these will be in the $75 range with the leather copper riveted sheath when I'm done... what do you think?

Interesting design. This one is pretty similar, got it back in '68. Standard issue for USN galley work, this one came from (believe it or not) spare parts.

I haven't the least clue what steel it is, but it holds an edge fairly well in kitchen work, everything from cutting pizza to hacking turkey roasts and tough beef roasts. 15.5 inches overall.

Here's a pic of the progress this afternoon and evening MM11.JPG ... just need to do a final clean up and then put the final edges on them and make the sheaths :0)

    Thanks again,
