Having stored food is great, but sooner or later it's gonna run out.
Hopefully by that time you'll at least have a small garden or even greenhouse to grow food in.

Up in the mountains the growing season is short, but doable.
The video shows the planting for a short growing season.

Note the dead grass on top to discourage critters from eating the seeds...

Plenty of water is needed, as the summer's can get pretty darn hot, even in the mountains.

Note the elevation we are at is 10,000 ft!

I saw that the dirt isn't local that it was bought from........... I don't think I missed a popup. Also I wonder how that carrots did in that shallow container.

Carrots didn't do so well, radishes were fine, cabbage was fine along with lettuces also :)

The dirt was brought up from lower-elevations

I have gardened for two years at higher elevation and each year I learn so much. This year I actually had peas successfully but I had them in a pot that was mainly shade/filtered light.

Wow, I'm impressed. I thought 9,000 feet was high to be gardening!

How high up are you growing at?

I am around 7,500 feet. I even had to relocate my blueberries because I put them in the sunniest areas but it was to much. I know the growing time is shorter but it was too hot and was killing them. I saw a post on here of someone that had netting over their garden and I am going to try that for parts of my garden, I think the filtered lighting will stop the plants from wilting every day.
