‘Doomsday Preppers’ felon pleads not guilty to gun charge

      • Smith appeared in an episode of the National Geographic Channel’s ‘Doomsday Preppers’ reality show.
“We’re not in it to stockpile,” Smith says of what he plans to do in the event of a Doomsday event. “We’re in it to come take what you have, and there’s nothing you can do to stop us.”
Smith claimed to be a part of a group of survivalists known as Marauders, and he made it clear he was armed. But, as a felon, possession of a firearm is against the law.
“A convicted felon and you go on television committing another crime, possessing firearms. What are you thinking? Did he really think that we would not notice that he had done this. We noticed and we arrested him today” on gun charges, Pastor said.
Smith’s episode of Doomsday Preppers was filmed at an old ranch house on the Sumner/Buckley Highway in Buckley.
“Strange. That’s the only thing I can say about it, strange,” neighbor Bob McDonald said.
“I thought it was ridiculous. Yeah, real ridiculous,” neighbor Gordon Wozeniak said.
Wozeniak and McDonald were two of smith’s closest neighbors; in proximity, that is.
“They did a lot of shooting on the weekends from time to time, and a few big bangs, but he never bothered me. Bothered the wife more than me,” Wozeniak said
Other than that, they say, Smith seemed like a normal guy.
But, it didn’t sit well with either man when they heard Smith on the show say he planned to steal from his neighbors.
“Well, that’s fine, but I may outgun him. I’m not sure. I wasn’t worried about that, no,” McDonald said.
Smith is also a convicted sex offender. Officials are now checking on his status relative to that.
If convicted of possession of a firearm, he could get up to a year in prison. But if he is charged on the federal level, he could face up to five years in prison.

I have come across this "Marauder" mentality before. They seem to only stockpile guns and ammo. One of them told me "When the time comes, we'll just take what we want." HE wasn't just talking about material things either.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

There's one in my town. Very vocal about it too, tells everyone how he's a survivalist and when TSHTF he and his buddies are going to run this town.

At least he's nice enough to warn the rest of us of his intentions.

And I suspect that in a SHTF situation, many more who currently do not have a "marauder" attitude will turn to that mentality once they see their kids starving. It certainly is a good thing that I don't have anything worth invading for.

I'm laughing that he's pleading not guilty. Does he not understand about cameras and video evidence? And shame on National Geographic for A: pretending this guy is a 'prepper'. Thugs are not preppers, IMO, and B: having a sex offender on their show. Do they not even screen their people anymore? Or did they know and just think it would boost their ratings?

You know what, come post-'doomsday', his ilk(like that Jason Beachem teenage punk) are gonna get some hard lessons. Because they will find out to their dismay that the real preppers will be expecting people like him and act accordingly. And the sheeple will not have anything worth raiding, they'll be S.O.L. themselves.

And yeah, Cabo is right about the desperation plenty of people will feel when SHTF. That's why I am amazed at that gal they had in the end of season 1, the 'New England Liberal' who doesn't think they need to be armed at all because their community will protect them(which is hypocritical for starters since she said she thinks too many people rely on the government and should rely on themselves instead) since they've worked to be a valuable asset to their neighbors. In good times everyone is your friend, but if there have been no bad times to know for sure the difference between their words and actions, I wouldn't count on them.

I have given up trying to make cash by growing/selling (extra) produce because I don't want people in our area to know I have food resources. The people I don't mind knowing that I have 'goodies' are those that have their own, therefore mine are of no interest to them.

“He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.”

Excerpt From: Sun Tzu. “The Art of War.” iBooks. iTunes - Books - The Art of War by Sun Tzu

“Hence the saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself, but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Excerpt From: Sun Tzu. “The Art of War.” iBooks. iTunes - Books - The Art of War by Sun Tzu

So, You know the person/group in the town who will be the enemy. He has declared it. But, in announcing his intentions, he has destroyed any chance he had at putting together a real plan because he will not be anticipating that his "enemy" has been studying him, who he hangs with, who he shoots with, what type of guns they own, if they have children/wife, etc. Where he drives, etc.., and at the first drop of the SHTF, the prepared will rise and crush the enemy unprepared!

I got the Art of War for my Kindle PC. Probably should finish reading it. Also got alot of homesteading books for free. Haven't figured out how to make it print stuff though, so I can have a hard copy of the info.

In a real SHTF situation I would bet his kind would more than likely be victims of "preventative maintenance".Just opening his mouth put the crosshairs on him.

Nice of them to reveal themselves like that, it removes some of the guess work, when the SHTF, as to where threat will come from, how many, what kind of weapons, and laying their strategy Out for all to see like that.
Might just send them a thank you card...from a post office box, that is.;)

We have a P.O. Box. Out here in the sticks mail doesn't get delivered to homes, goes to the post office. So no worries there. Only thing that comes to our house is UPS, FedEx, and Schwan's. You know, in a SHTF scenario I bet Schwan's trucks would be a serious target(if they're even still operating). Sure it's all frozen food that would require cold storage, but it's still FOOD. Me, I'd be tempted to hunt down anyone who raided a Schwan's truck without having working freezers of their own, because wasting all that ice cream is a serious felonius crime to me.

One would need a boat to find 2 of my locations unless they plan to swim/walk. They will have to brave Gator's and snakes + the occasional Bull shark. Twelve miles to the closest road.

We have sure come a long way from the time when it was considered every man's duty to be armed and ready to protect the community. When every man was against criminals. Maybe it is because we have too many criminals now, and too many of them in high places!

Having dealt with types like Smith off and on for the past 30 years or so it's the same old story ... they're simply ignorant cowards who will likely be problematic for the first few days of an event. After that, their whereabouts will be unknown and they'll soon fade from memory.

Finster Simplify, I'd say more but this says it all.

That show is a drama, not a documentary... It went off the rails ( and over the shark tank ) season 1 episode 4, then they ran out of material because they never expected a warm reception. IMO they expected people to mock the very concept of prepping as a lifestyle. When they went back to the producers for more money th eproducers said "sure were all about making bank on this, but only profile crazy losers so the don't increase thier following"... Or something like that. Interview the first few preppers profiled, they all complained that the show cut tier point of view out and real reasons for being preparded and focused on one "aspect of thier fears" like pandemic or emp or volcano... Nobody preps only for one isolated potential disaster, virtually everyone preps for the "most likely" SHTF scenarioS.

I like the concept of a "this old house format" show, but can't bring myself to watch. I believ that show has attached a stigma to our lifestyle.

It may have attached a stigma to our lifestyle, but I can't imagine many of us have give-a-rippers that work any more. I know mine broke about 25 years ago, and I haven't seemed to find the time to fix it.
