Gopherman Sometimes I Wish I Could Go Back to Sleep

We were watching FOX News last night and Judge Jeanine Pirro opened up with a frightening Get Prepared, Grid Down segment.

It got us to talking about what most of us are even here for. We talked about setting up perimeter defenses.m I said we should run High Test fishing line full of Treble Hooks all around the property,at the 4-5 and 6 foot level.
Most people would not be brazen enough for a daylight assault, so they wouldn't even see them at night. Worst case scenario they would be unable to free themselves and my dogs would alert us.
Then we could just walk right up to them.
Then a thought occurred to me! What an awesome time to witness to them, it might sound something like this " I am about to shoot you in the Head! Would you like to say a prayer with me, so that when your judged for all the evil you have been doing, Jesus can forgive you?
 If not, your going to meet him, anyway!!

Finster Simplify, I'd say more but this says it all.

Jut be careful of what you "take away", even from fox. The JP bit featuring Governor Bill Richardson of NM can't be trusted. Not that the grid isn't old and vulnerable, IT IS. But hte deems solution to the issue is to spend more money "federalizing it" and making it "modern" and connected... THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA. Here are my reasons.
    1. They want to modernize by making everything centrally controlled, that makes it more vulnerable on a larger scale. True without central control individual operators are vulnerable to localized attack but the localized attack would be "limited scope" because individual operators have no control over the rest of the grid.
    2. They will favor plants that are either "green" (wind, solar etc) or "Oil fired" and feed them with foreign oil. The smaller independents tend to use "cost effective" fuel sources like Nuclear, Coal and Water. We need to build more independent generators and on smaller scales not few larger.
    3. We need to prevent any CENTRALIZED CONTROL, this is just another way they want to control people and make them dependent on big government. It also makes us vulnerable to Terrorist attack and "internal subterfuge".
Texas is not connected to the national grid, and will likely continue to refuse to enter into a national pact, other states should follow suit.

There have been 2 segments in the last week, Neither of them involved Richardson. They can viewed on youtube.
Even during the "LIAR IN CHIEF'S" speech on the NSA, he glanced over it! American Blackout was on TV a couple months ago. Knowing that all Media is under control, the fact that they keep bringing it up so frequently now, starting with the Farewell Interview of Big Sister, Janet Napolitano, tells me they must want us to start being prepared for something!!
I'm gonna use a big number here, it's probably way high, even if 10% of Americans are seeing the warning signs, that would be 32 million mouths they wouldn't have to feed. They can't afford to come straight out and start a panic,so, I believe they release info a little at a time, trying to quell the stampede, before they drop the last shoe.
I only need a little more time, and then they can do what they may. But, they are putting it out there!!

I saw that episode with Judge Pirro and thought it was very good. The greatest damage that could be done to our nation would be to "turn the lights out".

Your OP reminds me of a Mike Warnke skit, he says when the rapture comes, as he is lifting up to be with the Lord he is going to grab two sinners, one in each hand and when they get a couple hundred feet up in the air he is going to say "so, you two going to get saved or do I let go?"

I think I'd prefer to be sitting in a deck chair watching through binoculars from a long distance when that little scenario plays out....I like the idea of the spiritual equivalent of "Deadliest Warriors" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadliest_Warrior .

....um...maybe call it "Deadliest Followers"e.g....Jehova's Witnesses vs Mormons would be an interesting combination to watch....each trying to convert the other, in between pot shots and handing out religious tracts.....I'll offer short odds on the Salvation Army vs Christian Scientists though.

J-Dubs wouldn't stand a chance ...... Mormons wouldn't ever be an aggressor, but if attacked, or threatened, would band together, and meet the threat, with overwhelming force. Hann's Mill taught them a very Great lesson, and they vow, "Never Again, PERIOD".... Just ask Johnston's Army.....

I agree with Bruce, Mormons hands down winners in that match up. After being pushed across the entire country and even forced out of it (Utah was in Mexican territory when they settled there) they had enough. They won't be pushed around again.
But for the overall title of deadliest warrior, I would submit the Phinehas Priesthood. They are the ninja assassins of Christendom. They are rumored to have been behind the assassination of many enemies of Christendom, including nobles, kings and even a pope. Their very existence is denied by many but scripture tells us that God himself proclaimed that the descendents of Phinehas would be an everlasting priesthood. A priesthood whose sole function was to protect God's people and to kill their enemies. So either God lied or they are still an entity to this day. The shadowy nature and very doubt of their existence serves to show just how successful they have been over the centuries.

We know what you meant Chell, as is common in many threads on the monkey we took it off on a completely different tack.
Maybe we should merge this thread with the one on Militant Christianity.

The Phinehas Priesthood still seems to be around, and no disrespect meant to you Minuteman, but as long as narrow-minded bigotry and hate continue in the human species, they have a good chance of continuing to exist. Whatever they may have claimed to be in times past, it seems as though those who raise their heads from their dark holes today would be better defined as a goon squad for Westboro Baptist Church, rather than ninja assassins of Christendom.

I would hope that in any religious contest of arms, decent Christians would unite to eliminate this stain. Recent self proclaimed adherents to the banner of Phineas Priest would seem to have more in common with Islamic Extremist Jihadis, than they would have with mainstream Christians. It defies my understanding how a group claiming authority from the Old Testament can be anti-Semetic.

Here's a few links, both positive and negative, but even just reading the positive ones, the Phineas Priesthood comes across as skinheads with Bibles. It would be nice if the Phineas Priests would actually attempt to understand the Bible which they claim to revere.

My post about the Phinehas Priesthood was meant to be tongue in cheek. Your analogy to Jihadists is spot on Tuli.
There are those who use religion and a supposed divine directive to justify their own hatred and their ungodly acts. I read all of the links in your post and they are completely wrong. They don't understand the original story, the commission, and the purpose of the preisthood in todays world. They only focus on those who use it to justify thier evil actions.

I didn't want to open a big can of worms but since it is opened let me shed some light and truth on the matter. Let's start at the beginning. One of the links explains it this way.

"The Phineas Priesthood draws its name from a priest in the Old Testament named Phineas, who took it upon himself to enforce God’s Law ("The Law") upon an Israelite named Zimri who had violated The Law by sleeping with a female member of another clan. Phineas had taken this role upon himself after seeing that this violation of The Law was a plot to destroy the Israelites by violating The Law against intermarriage and intercommunal relations."

    Another describes it thusly.

"What is a "Phineas Priest", and why does a certain element of the Militia Movement possess this conceit? The inspiration comes from the Old Testament and the Book of Numbers (Numbers 25:6-13)*. Phineas was the grandson of Aaron, who objected to the consorting of an Israelite with a Midianite woman and slew them both. (Ironic when you recall that Moses married a Midianite woman himself.) This zealous deed so impressed his fellows that it assured his succession to the High Priesthood, and the memory of this incident resulted in a faction of priests after the Babylonian Exile centuries later claiming descent from Phineas, and the special status this apparently implied."

Both of these examples fail to read the entire story in context. After the exodus God commanded the Israelites to not intermingle with the people they would come in contact with in their travels. Knowing that they would be influenced by their paganism. The Israelites were coming out of 400 years of slavery and were hungry for an identity, a place in the world. Imitating the powerful tribes and people around them would have been an easy thing to do. God warns them not to do this. But of course, as is the common theme in the Old Testament, they didn't listen. (It is also noteworthy that Moses was married to a Midianite woman, BEFORE the exodus and before Gods command to not intermingle with the other tribes. And she disappears from the record soon after, leading many to believe that he "put her away" a biblical term for divorced.) So this author shows his ignorance of scripture from the start.

God sent a plaque to the Israelites and 24,000 died. God commanded Moses to kill all those who had broken his command and intermingled with these foreign women. (and worshipped their false gods, that was the sin, not necessarily having sex with them)During the meeting Moses was having with the elders and leaders of the different tribes of Israel, an Israelite man brazenly, in front of all the congregation took a foreign women into his tent. This so enraged Phinehas that he ran into the tent and killed them both. His act of zealousness for Gods law impressed God and he withdrew the curse and plaque on the people.
One author states that this act so impressed his peers that they elevated him to the High Priesthood. No, it was God himself who said that he and his descendents would be an everlasting Priesthood. Therein lies the rub that takes away the biblical mandate that many of these extremists want to use. Are you a descendent of Phinehas? If you are not then you are not of the Phinehas Priesthood. It is not a club open to anyone, whose prerequisite for membership is to commit a violent act against those who you decide are enemies of God. It doesn't work that way and anyone who claims to be a member is a liar and does not know what they are talking about. But, that is not to say that they do not exist. God says they will be an everlasting priesthood so they are in the world today, what is their mission? Only they know. They have been rumored to be behind the assassination of many supposed enemies of God over time, but no one knows the truth. But those in the extremist world that use their existence to justify their actions are NOT the Phinehas Priesthood.

Where most cannot fathom the connection and the distinction is trying to put the actions of God in the Old Testament into a modern reference or looking solely at the moment in time when the event occurred. God sees all the way down the corridor of time and can see the outcomes, many generations later, of actions that are taken today. So when he commands the Israelites to do something , that we might find barbaric by todays standards we have to look at the outcome of it. Many cannot see that. For instance the command to slaughter everyone in the cities that they conquered. They were commanded to kill all men women and children. We see this as barbaric and uncivilized and would cry war crimes or crimes against humanity today but look what happened when they disobeyed. They didn't fulfill this command and ever since they have had trouble, war, death and misery with the descendents of those peoples. If they had of killed a few thousand all those millennium ago, how many lives would it have saved over time? How much misery and suffering would have been avoided? So we cannot judge Gods seemingly heartless actions in the Old Testament by a modern ruler. That fact escapes many today.

"This is a glaring defect in the Old Testament that, with the prodigious growth of Fundamentalism, has become a deadly problem. When numerous examples of outright evil are presented as righteous behavior, we should not be surprised when further such incidents by unrepentant fanatics occur in the future. As for the rest of us, who are not in any nut group, the challenge posed by the Old Testament is simple: either we recognize it as morally deficient, or we debase our moral sensibility in order to conform to it."

"As a Deist, this type of depiction of God as a jealous killer is NOT acceptable."

Evil is in the eye of the beholder. There is no contradiction in the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New. They are one in the same. The actions in the old that some see as evil were necessary at the time and with good reason that we can only see many generations past the events. Unfortunately this goes back to my statement about people wanting to be told what to believe instead of searching it out themselves. This is the reason the man made myth of a Gandhi like Christ is so prevalent. A true searching of scripture shows a Christ and his disciples that were anything but meek and timid. They carried swords, Peter cut off a soldiers ear, Christ himself exhibits righteous anger when he over turns tables and whips the money changers in the temple. In other words he kicked a## and took names.

So are we far enough off topic yet? Monkeys are the best in the world at derailing a thread. Bravo!! [applaud]
