It's actually very strong wine, You have to distill it to make brandy. I never did that, looks too dangerous to me, it's plenty strong right out of the bottle
    10 pints strawberry's or "whatever"
    2 boxes white raisins
    2 oranges cut up
    10lbs sugar
1 bottle fleishmans active yeast 4 ounce
    4 gallons of water
    5 gallon plastic water jug

Put the Fruit, sugar, raisins and 4 glns of warm water in the jug, stir to until the sugar melts, not hot water, you will kill the yeast 110* at most, place yeast in warm water about a quart and dissolve, place the yeast in the jar, place a paper towel in the hole and put it where when it overflows, it wont hurt anything, and it will foam for a couple days. I put it in a Turkey fryer pot.
Place a clean wadded up paper towel in the whole. It has to be able to let the Gas escape, with out letting wild yeast in, Cheesecloth will work too, paper towels are cheaper.
I tried the rubber stopper with the hose in water thing, it shot a hole in my ceiling! :)
stir once a day for 7 days. then leave it alone. At this point you can top of the water level after the yeast stops foaming out.
At the end of thirty day syphon of the liquid into gallon jugs and seal, it will be cloudy let them sit for a couple days to settle and syphon off again, avoiding the yeast that settles. If you want it to be like Liquor type brandy you have to distill it. That's not something I am interested in, its plenty strong enough for me.
If you put a bottle in your fridge that your going to drink, the cool separates out the yeast faster.
Be careful this stuff is sweet like Strawberry Hill but kicks like Jack Daniels.
I only learned how to make this for barter purposes, I am a big fan of Japenese Plum Wine because it is so sweet, this is just as sweet but a lot higher OCTANE!
    Its a dessert wine.
I had a glass the first night we made it and only drank half my wife drank hers and finished mine, it Drunked her, she does't do that anymore.

I don't know how much yeast "1 bottle" is.

We don't drink that much any more. We only have a glass at a time once a month or tw0.

@Gopherman - a few questions. First, you mentioned 10 lbs of sugar in the ingredients list but I didn't see where it's used in the recipe. At what point to you stir in the sugar?

Also, you said to "put it where when it overflows, and it will foam for a couple days." - is that to say that it will overflow, so just put the jug someplace where overflow is OK?

Finally, can the recipe be scaled back or downsized? I like a nice brandy every now and then, but I certainly don't need 5 gallons of the stuff...

    trust me when I tel
o_O You mix the sugar and fruit and everything together then add warm water and stir it before you add the yeast. I totally faked it the first time. It turned out awesome! The east will start foaming so its best to put it in last.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention1 I will edit the post. It really doesn't matter too much except for the yeast going in last.As for your other question about the foam I put inside a turkey fryer Pot. DO NOT plug the hole![booze]make sure whatever you put in the hole can breath I used a wad od paper towels.
You wont get 5 gallons it'll probably yield around 3.5gln

Believe me when I tell you , people will want some of, the first batch will go quick, The second batch I tried turned out exactly like the first, except, I didn't let anybody know I made it.

Thank you @Brokor - I was just looking into whether this is legal to do.

The resources I found said that wine is OK but that brandy is not. We're calling it brandy here - is that accurate? Or is it wine?

It's actually wine, but the recipe called it Brandy. You have to distill it to make it brandy.

I see that now, thanks. [winkthumb]

For some reason I thought that all alcohol was OK up to certain amounts, but decided I should check anyways. Apparently it wouldn't have made a difference here since this is not distilled, but glad I did anyway - Always best to double check first when legality is in question.

Far better than the TV show, "Breaking Bad", which depicts average adults conspiring to make a living cooking and selling meth.
There are so many people making meth these days, it's ridiculous.

My grandma clipped a similar recipe from a newspaper in the 40's and my family's been making it ever since. I'm 3rd generation to make what we call "Grandma's Kitchen Sink Brandy". I have 4 gallons ready by Christmas every year (if it lasts that long haha), made with the grapes from my own back yard.
The white/golden raisins are the key. I've even started adding tangerines when they're in season. Yes, very strong and very delicious.
One thing I do that's not mentioned here; After the initial 7-10 fermentation, I rack it once a week. That keeps the yeast working. I also use Fleischmann's yeast packets, dissolved in warm water. One packet per batch seems to work well. The more yeast you add, the more explosive the process. One pack can easily eat 10 lbs of sugar without too much sulfur and CO2 buildup.

Sorry, I don't know what this means

I've got lots of fruit in the freezer from my CSA last year. Kept getting too much to eat, not enough to can so into the freezer it went. I just might try to make some of this.
